X Marks the Spot - Stitching on a Scrapbook Layout | Brooke Takara

My favorite beach right now is semi-secluded and absolutely gorgeous. As soon as I saw this kit, I knew I wanted to use it to document this new, special place. The colors were perfect. I started out by choosing my favorite side of each scrapbook paper and pulling out a few of the embellishments I thought would work well for what I had in mind.

I settled on using the tiny b/w dots patterned paper for my main background and cut an "X" out of the blue striped paper to be the main focus and theme for this layout. It also serves as part of the title.

I needed something to break up the blues found in my photo and the "X" so naturally, I reached for the yellow and white striped patterned paper. Yellow is my go-to color when I'm looking to add a little oomph to a project.

Once I had the four strips of yellow and white striped paper in place, I sewed them all down the middle. This not only secured them to my layout, but also allowed me to flip the edges up to add dimension. Love that technique.

I matted my photo with white cardstock and made sure to leave a border large enough to fit my journaling. Stitching around the edge of the photo added a tiny bit of gold detail.

To add interest and detail, I used the cool roller stamp to stamp off a few tiny hearts in clusters around the layout. Gold mist splatters and pop dots in various sizes were also added at this time. (Yep, that's right. Pop dots as an embellishment. Fun, right?!)

A label, a tab, a tiny piece of tucked patterned paper under my photo + those amazing gold alphas popped up using more pop dots and voila!
