#NSDSC15 | Challenge 03 - Sketch Challenge with Jenn Picard and Marcy Penner

Our sketches (and sketch challenges!) have been one of our most popular blog features for years. For NSD, we're bringing you an extra sketch you can try out on a layout, card or Project Life® project. Try this sketch with any of your kits and see where it takes you!

Jenn Picard: I love this sketch and I couldn’t resist taking the opportunity to use the Baxter collection and scrap a photo of our cute new pup sleeping soundly the day we brought him home. I kept very close to the original sketch for my 9x12 page, only omitting a few of the elements from the bottom of the page. Love how those 4x4 cards card can easily be used on a traditional scrapbook page.

Supplies: Baxter Dogs Die Cuts, Baxter Patterned paper 021, Baxter Vellum Hearts, Baxter Patterned Paper 018, Baxter Dog wood veneer, Baxter Gold Alpha, Baxter Dog Phrase stickers, Puffy Shape Stickers, StazOn Black Ink

Marcy Penner: It's no secret that I love sketches! They're such a great jumping off point when you want to try something new or when you just want to get out of a rut. Whether I stick to the design 100%… or tweak it along the way… sketches are great jumpstarts.

I loved everything about this sketch and didn't plan on changing much. I bumped my photo and journaling block to the very top of the page. I matted my photo with patterned paper to make it pop a little bit.

After looking at the sketch some more I decided to move my journaling to run down the centre of the page and move the embellishments to the top left, basically just switching the journaling and embellishing around. I layered two tags and some leaf embellishments beside my photo.

I didn't have a chance to use the rubber embellishments in the Katherine kit, so I jumped at the opportunity to use one here. I added the yellow "xo" heart to act as my title. Before I glued any of this down I ran my card stock through my typewriter and journaled down the center. Everything then got adhered and I added a little stamp to the bottom.

Although I did end up changing the parts of the sketch just slightly you can still see how came to my finished page. If you've never tried using a sketch before now's your chance!

Supplies: Katharine Carolina Moon Embellishment Kit, Carolina Moon Project Life kit
