Weekly Challenge | Keep It Simple

This week, our member Chrissy (username Cabrady93), is challenging you to keep it simple on your projects and in your albums!! Our members are so talented and we love seeing your work in the gallery! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure visit Chrissy to see more of her work and keep up with her!

I’ve been a subscriber to Studio Calico PL kits since January 2014 and I love these kits. They are so inspiring. This is my second year doing Project Life and today I’m here to issue a challenge based off my Layout “My Happy Place.” There are two main focuses for me when I’m documenting my stories: keep it simple & make it pretty. The story for this layout is simple… Beer. I really enjoy trying new foods and drinks, and couldn’t wait to document the Beirgarten I went to. For this layout I tried to include just about equal parts photos and filler cards. Most of my cards have no more than one embellishment each, which I like because it allows me to focus on my photos while still being appealing to the eye. I also challenged myself by using colors that don’t come easy to me (orange/red). I pulled from a lot of different kits, but mostly the Carolina Moon kit for embellishments and cards. I have to say I really love the way this one came out.

I challenge you all to make a simple layout with colors that you don’t ordinarily use. Pairing them with favorite colors might help (it did for me with the light blue and pink). Try not to make it too busy with embellishments and focus on your photos and the story of the day/week. Can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Jenny's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by June 15th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the June 20th Layout of the Week post.

I made this layout a few days ago and it fits the challenge perfectly, it is extremly simple and I did use a color that I don't use very often (blue). :)

I used pink in this challenge, which is not my favorite color, and based my layout on a sketchbook class sketch by Kelly Purkey. I was amazed how the pink emphasized the colors in my photos.

This is probably the simplest spread I've done to date. Last week of my 2014 album and I just wanted it done. Mostly B&W. The wreath embellishment is from the previous week showing through.

I made two simple pages with hardly no embellies...this will be an insert in between 2 12x12 layouts to help get extra photos in the album. I loved that large yellow summer card but I wasn't sure about the multi-colored card. http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/166773-summer-2013-pl-pages

Just a strip of patterned paper, and a couple embellies. :)

Great challenge! I kept mine really simple, using just paper, some PL cards, and 2 stickers. It's very hard for me to use light blue, but it goes well with the Father's Day paper: http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/167183-d-is-for-dad
