Weekly Challenge | Mix & Match

This week, our member Carol (username Carolly), is challenging you to mix and match current and new kits and to use packaging on your projects! Our members are so talented and we love seeing your work in the gallery! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure visit Carol to see more of her work and keep up with her!

My layout started with the story of our journey during a recent vacation. Although my plans were perfected for our needs ( flight times/arrivals), the day took a turn for disaster-AKA delays. I posted a tidbit on Instagram about "clinging to Proverbs 16:9" a verse that was running through my head, and as an encouragement my sweet friend Brandi, known here at SC as @Brandeye8, sent me a scripted version of the verse. I took a screenshot and just knew I had to incorporate it in this Layout.

It all came together with pieces from 5 past SC Project Life® kits, some packaging bits, and non-scrappy supplies. While the the SC kits coordinate beautifully, I often find that it's easy to mix pieces from past kits together. I am also a bit of a hoarder when it comes to supplies and save the packaging they come in. In my layout I used the negative pieces from those lovely blue labels that came in the PL Odyssey kit to add dimension and interesting texture. Last but not least, it's so fun for me when I create to think beyond my kit for scrappy supplies. In this case, I made some "washi tape" using regular old masking tape and added stamping. I also tore out a magazine page to use as a backdrop. So today I'm challenging you to try:

1) Mix & Match pieces from current and past kits.

2) Use packaging on your project to create unique textures

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Carol's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by July 12th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the July 18th Layout of the Week post.

Fun challenge! I mixed pieces from 3 old kits: Valley High, Spencer's, and Planetarium. And I used pieces of the Studio Calico paper folio thing in the layout: the blue paper "buttons," punched circle, yellow banner (covered in washi), and the name/date thing. http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/168984-wacky-mini-golf

I combined the Galileo and Fairground card kits, and used a bag from the packaging to make the envelope for my card:
