Weekly Challenge | honeykd

This week, our member Kristi (honeykd), wants you to create a project based on one from your favorite Creative Team members! In her layout below, she used elements from the Pop Art Scrapbook kit. Our members are so talented and we love seeing your work in the gallery! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure to visit Kristi to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Hi guys! Kristi here. I’m happy to be issuing the challenge this week, and I hope your creative juices are flowing! If not, no worries ;-) If you’re like me, you sometimes get stuck for ideas, or need a jumping off point. When I first began scrapbooking just a couple of years ago, I exclusively copied designer work, or used sketches to get my pages made. Since then, I’ve learned there is a term for it - scraplifting! To the best of my knowledge, it means to copy someone else’s layout in whole or in part, and while the word may conjure negative connotations for some, it’s really perfectly okay to do, so long as you’re not trying to get paid for the design.

We’ve all seen the beautiful, creative layouts the SC Design Team produces every month, and my layout ‘D Birthday 2015’ is an homage to @qingmei’sRome *Main Kit Only*’ layout. I loved everything about Geralyn’s layout and chose to recreate it for my personal album at home. I made a few subtle changes, adapting it from her 8-1/2x 11 page to my 12x12, but other than that, stayed true to her design.

My challenge to you is to choose a favorite project from a design team member who really inspires you and scraplift either the whole thing, a part of it, or just a design element you love. Good luck, and I can’t wait to see what you do with this one!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Kristi's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the Studio Calico gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by October 5th to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the October 10th Layout of the Week post.

I have a 2-page layout, and the right side is lifted from Jamie Waters. Here's mine: http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/175012-8th-grade-graduation

I always loved this layout form @ginny featured on a Sunday Sketch challenge: http://www.studiocalico.com/2015/06/sunday-sketch-ginny-hughes-e182cc27-bc45-48ac-841e-4d6593c54b86 so I lifted it changing my background to Kraft (all pages in this album are Kraft)....it was an excellent layout to use up scraps and branding strips. http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/175050-weekly-challenge-my-good-camper

My thank you card was inspired by the combination of leaves and a circle on the birthday layout @natalieelph did in the wink wink gallery
