Tutorial: Using the Wink Wink Scrapbook Kit with Watercolors

Tags:

For today's post I prepared a step by step tutorial for you. In a few steps I want to show you how I combined this 'Wink Wink' layout made with Scrapbook main kit and some watercolor mediums. I grabbed patterned papers, embellishments and printables that suit one of my favourites photos (they are so old and I used them milion times for my projects, but it's never enough of beautiful seaside captures, right?).

I started from the composition. The layout is based on an original work made by @scrappyleigh, I used her project as a sketch for my own interpretation. I think that circle composition is most wanted when you are so in love with these round, exclusive elements from the main kit - that's why I decided to use multiple circles on this layout.

I created circle embellishments using different patterned papers and printables.

I made more of the circles and collected other embellishments and printables.

The yellow circle cut from the exclusive paper will be a good place for journaling. I sketched a few pencil lines that gave me a kind of delicate pattern on this plain area. Then, I added a printable banner sticked with dimensional foams.

I covered the background using white gesso and when it was completely dry I glued basic elements of my composition.

Then I began playing with watercolors (or if you prefer - watercolor mediums; this time I used Peerless Watercolor Papers, Neocolor II and October Afternoon Sprinkles).

Next, I added subtle journaling above the title.

In the next step I decided to create few black splashes here and there using Mister Huey's black mini mist.

In your main 'Wink Wink' kits you can find an original wood stamp. You can used it in a various ways (all the inspirations you can find in our Creative Team gallery for October), I decided to experiment with Neocolors II. I covered the leave stamp using two shades of these crayons mixed with a drop of water.

I stamped it as soon as possible because neocolors have to be wet when you want to used them with stamps. I like the final effect and I hope Studio Calico will add more of such stamps in future kits.

I hope you enjoy this tutorial and you will find something what you could incorporate into your own projects. Thank you for your time.
