Tutorial: Using the Scout Scrapbook Kit with Geralyn Sy

Hi, everyone! Today I’m here with a look at how I used the new Jacob alpha stamps on a layout. The font is playful, and it definitely adds whimsy to a page. Here’s my layout, from start to finish:

I chose a photo of my niece and nephew that I thought matched the playful vibe of the alphas. I printed it out as a 4x4” image.

I adhered the photo to the center of my layout. Now it was time to decide on what to use the Jacob alphas for! I knew I wanted to stamp a quote of some kind, and after browsing Pinterest for a while, I settled on this Ralph Waldo Emerson quote: “Be silly, be honest, be kind.” There are a couple of different possible ways to align the alpha stamps and make sure they’re straight. One option is to draw a faint line using a pencil as a guide. Instead of doing this, I decided to start with the last phrase of the quote because I knew I wanted it to be right above my photo. By working ‘backwards’ this way and stamping from the bottom up, I can figure out the placement of the letters and use the straight edge of the photo as my guide.

I chose to use a mix of Color Theory dye inks with the alpha stamps so that they would be bright and colorful. It’s really fun to mix and match Jacob's different letters for a unique look!

Here’s how the quote looks after I finished stamping all three lines. Another thing you could try is to stamp all the alphas with black ink and color in the outlined alphas for little pops of color. The possibilities are endless.

Once the stamped quote was complete, the majority of my layout was done! I just added a few embellishments on my photo – a chipboard star and a phrase sticker.

Finally, when I decided the bottom of the layout was too plain, I added some patterned paper to finish it off. I used this rainbow stripe paper from the Scout scrapbook kit to match the rainbow colors of my alphas.

Here’s my completed layout! It’s a super simple page, but it’s playful and colorful :) I left a lot of white space on my page so that all the bold colors wouldn’t be too overwhelming. And that’s it! Hopefully this shows you how fun the new Jacob alphas are, and if you don’t have those yet, I encourage you to try mixing and matching alphas on your own layouts for a fun look!
