Tutorial: Using the Pool Party Scrapbook Kit with Geralyn Sy

Hi, everyone! Today I’m sharing with you a fun way to stamp a background using the new Pattern Builder stamp. The set is the second of the series, and the simple patterns are versatile and useful when making scrapbook pages. Let’s get started.

I began my page by stamping the large striped stamp with gray Color Theory ink on a piece of white cardstock.

For the second row, I chose the heart pattern stamp to stamp underneath the striped pattern. However, I used a piece of scrap cardstock as a mask on the right side of the page, so that the heart pattern stamp would not extend the full 6” on my layout. This is so that I can use two colors and two different patterns on one row.

After stamping the hearts, I moved my scrap piece of paper so that it is now aligned with the end of the striped pattern. Then I chose another stamp (this plus sign stamp is from the first set of Pattern Builder stamps released earlier this year) and another ink color to stamp beside the hearts. Using this masking technique makes it easy to mix up the patterns on your page. It also gives your layout a unique look!

Using this same masking technique, I stamped another row of patterns below my second row. This time, I did the masking on the left side of the page to balance out the design.

Once I finished my stamping, I adhered my photos to the bottom of my layout and added a little tab die-cut from the Pool Party scrapbook kit.

The scrapbook kit comes with these really cool hand-drawn alpha cards, but the title was too large for my page. I found the letters I needed and decided to hand cut the letters so I could condense them. Then, they worked perfectly at the top of my layout.

As a final step, I stapled some of the asterisk transparencies to give my page a bit more whimsy.

Here’s a look at my final layout! I wrote my journaling right on the grid pattern, which was the perfect place to house some words. I hope this inspires you to play with your patterned stamps and experiment with masking techniques when you make your next layout. Thanks for taking a look!

I love using stamps to make the background for layouts. I appreciate the masking tip, I usually forget to do that.
