Using the Sonnet Scrapbook Kit with Catherine Davis

Tags:

I love the moody blues of the November kit and wanted to create a simple, quiet page around them. I’ve made a lot of layouts where I’ve created a background pattern by repeating stamps. Basic shapes like stars, circles, asterisks and floral work best. The tag design in the Sonnet Scrapbook Kit was no exception.

I was excited to put a Color Theory Pigment Ink to use here. They are, hands-down, my favorite ink to stamp with now. I love how vibrant and consistent the colors appear. The fact that the Glass Slipper color is complimentary and works well together with the papers gives the design a sense of pattern and cohesiveness. I alternated the direction of the stamp all the way down my page to add a little interest. From there, I added some handwritten words. I waffled on if I wanted to add something to each tag, but I settled on random so the black ink wouldn’t compete with my image too much.

I decided that less was more when it came to the other elements. I picked a stark, clean image and layered two squares of patterned paper. The image is up on foam dots, and I turned up the edges ever so slightly to add a bit of interest.

I’ve included some examples of how I used this technique in the past. If this is new to you, I urge you to try it. It’s a lot of fun to play with!
