December's featured teachers

Documenter Kit Workshop - Jamie Leija

Jamie Leija (pronounced "lay-ha") is a native Texan who loves to travel and scrapbook. Scrapbooking has been a big part of her life since she was very young. At 11 or 12, she went to a Creative Memories party with her mom and has been scrapbooking ever since! Her first job in high school was for a local scrapbook store. It was there she realized that she loved to share this hobby with others. She's been published in Northridge Publishing's Scrapbook Trends, CARDS and Create publications, and has been a guest on three episodes of the Paperclipping Roundtable. She's currently on three creative teams.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I really love how varied and versatile the color scheme is, and also the fantastic mix of patterns! My favorite product is the set of acetate labels. I love adding contrast to my pages, and the black edge is the perfect way to do that.

What she'll be teaching:

This month, I’m covering journal card building, adding a mini book to a pocket and mixing patterns. In the first lesson, we’ll create a card using other cards, stamps and die cuts. In the second lesson, using the exclusive printable, we’ll put together a mini traveler’s notebook that slips down into a 3" x 4" pocket. In the final lesson, I’ll share the basics of playing with patterns.

Takeaways:

I want participants to feel comfortable layering patterns, to be confidant in building journaling cards using scraps and other bits and bobs, and to have fun creating mini traveler’s notebooks for their pocket pages!

Planner Kit Workshop - Jamie Waters

Jamie is a mom of four, and has been scrapbooking for 14 years. She lives in California where her perfect day consists of 75 degrees, zero traffic, and a good cup of coffee. She loves all aspects of documenting, from taking so many photos, to all the cute supplies, to journaling memories.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I love the chunky notepad!! I love how it’s divided up, with the week up top and the notes down below. I definitely think I’ll be using that lots. I also like the stickers! I’m a sticker hoarder, so I can never have enough. The little washi tabs/flags are subtle and soft, which is a nice touch. The bold bubble captions will also be fun to use throughout my planner pages! I love how there’s so much fun packed into this Planner Kit! I'm happy to dig in and play!

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, I’ll show you how I tackle the beginning stages of an empty monthly spread. For the second lesson, I wanted to show you how I use the class exclusive digital printable in my weekly spread. In the third lesson, I'll teach you a fun way to use the notepad week sheets with the A5 insert paper!

Takeaways:

It’s fun to play around with the different pieces that come with the kit! Try not to overthink about placement - just dive in and have fun!

Scrapbook Kit Workshop - Raquel Bowman

Raquel is a 32-year-old Australian primary school teacher, mommy to two kiddies (Jack, 2 & Charlotte, 4) and wife to Clint. She is obsessed with scrapbooking, and loves nothing more than playing with a variety of papers and embellishments and making pretty stuff. She loves spending time with her family, sharing coffee with friends, having creative time, sipping a glass of wine at the end of a tough day, and all things social media! She has been scrapping for around 13 years now, and feels she has finally found her style. She's a lover of layers, cut files and clusters, and enjoys adding little details while still maintaining white space, balance and a cleanliness to her layouts.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

Where do I start? Okay... so, I totally fell in love with the kraft floral ephemera in this kit. I need another couple of packs of those alone! I also love, love, love the papers in the kit designed by Jasmine Jones, especially that grey-on-white text print! I think my last fave item, if I am picking only three, would definitely be the acrylic gold glittered stars. I love that they have the adhesive on them already, and they are such a beautiful shade of gold.

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, we will go geometric in terms of layout design, using only the Cyprus Grove Main Kit and tools to create a page. In the second lesson, we will be using the Cyprus Grove Main Kit and the exclusive cut files. One of the things I love about cut files that I will be sharing in this lesson is that the opportunities for layout designs are endless once you start adapting and creating your own files from sets like this one. In the third lesson, I'll share how I choose two elements from the kits and create a whole layout based around them. The embellishments not only inspired the main design of the page, but also ended up being the main focal point of the layout along with the photo.

Takeaways:

For me, a paper and embellishment lover, layout balance and design are crucial. Sometimes less is more when building layouts, so we don’t have to use everything in front of us simply because it is there. It’s the subtle details within layers, clusters and other design elements that I hope students will gain some insight into. I will share some creative ways to use the elements within your kits to create three completely different layouts.
