Radiate Love with Carson Riutta

Hello, friends! I thought I would send a little papercrafts sunshine your way today, in case you’re experiencing the February doldrums. I absolutely love this Sunshine stamp set designed by Peppermint of One Little Bird. She totally knocked it out of the park with these wonderful sentiments and that bold and customizable sun. I plan to use this set over and over again! Today, I combined the stamp set with some bold papers from this month's 4x6 paper pad to create this sunny, quilted valentine.

This card is simple to recreate in any color palette, and is a great way to use up scraps. As long as you have a nice large sentiment to cover the spot where all your papers meet, then creating your own sunburst of paper can be easy and fuss free.

I began by marking the midpoint on the card with pencil, just to use as a guide. I then started with one piece of paper, and created four rays from that paper, all meeting in the middle. I did this by laying the paper on the card, and using a ruler to draw the rays one at a time with a pencil. I then cut along the lines and adhered the rays to the card. It’s important that your rays extend out over the edge of the card because we want full coverage. Once your ray is adhered, you simply cut off the overhanging paper using the edge of the card as a guide.

I repeated the same steps from above with a different paper for the next four rays, but this time I made sure that the edge of each new ray fit snug to the edge of an existing ray. Remember, it's okay for the place where all your rays meet to look like a hot mess because you will be covering it later with a sentiment. Don’t fret about that as you go.

For the last four rays, I tried to fit them into the remaining spots as best I could, but there is some overlap of the other rays. I think it looks fine, so I wouldn’t worry about that too much. Just make sure you can’t see any white from the card base between your rays.

As a final touch, I stitched along the edges of each ray from the card edge to the center point to make the design pop and create a quilted look.

I hope you’ll try something similar the next time you are looking to use your scraps or to kill your kit. Happy crafting, friends!

Carson
