June 2017 Member Spotlight

Hi, I'm Cindy (@Brinkleyboy)! I live in Wisconsin, in the shadow of Lambeau Field. I lived several years in South Carolina where we moved for my husband's job and I worked in Environmental Science. My husband and I have 3 grown children. The light of our lives are our 3 grandchildren ages 9, 4 and 2. My husband and I have been married for 36 years and we are now empty nesters rediscovering passions and dreams once put on hold. We now have more time and budget for traveling. I love the ocean, all water related activities, dogs (but currently do not have any), traveling, plants, photography, music, cooking, baking(I grew up in a bakery) and the Packers. I am the memory keeper of our family!

Member Since:

I discovered SC back in October of 2013 when I purchased my first December Daily kit, and also through Elizabeth Kartchner's site in search of the letterpress plates she used! So glad I clicked her link. I finally pulled the trigger and started subbing in July 2014 with my first kit: Hello Hello Project Life. A 12x12 scrap booker initially, I decided to try this new format because the kits were so dang cute! I have tried all formats, and loved learning card making. I have been mostly a self-taught crafter, teaching myself to sew, knit & crochet so SC classes have been great for learning new skills and crafts. I am still trying to learn digital scrapping and know enough to get by.

Why SC?

My favorite part of SC has to be the community and the Classes/Creative Team. I love being able to connect and get to know so many wonderful people beyond my little place in the world. Even though we may not have met in person, I've made many friends around the world who share my love of crafting and creating, and have always been there to help share their knowledge and skills when I need it. They share their knowledge beyond the crafting realm as well. They share with insights into recipes, travel must-sees, where to stay and good reads lending support and laughter along the way. I love learning new things and having such a variety of classes with great instructors and CT members is so great!

Must-Have Products:

My favorite products are hands down, the stamps!!! First, SC always has such unique stamps! I use them on most every project I make. They can be used in making a layout, documenting or making your own documenter cards or tags. I love using them to make my own cards and wrapping paper!! I especially love reusing old kraft paper bags and stamping my own wrap, it is a great way to customize the gift to your recipient and helps bring out my creative side. They are just so fun. I currently love to stamp using embossing powders and heat setting them and then water coloring on the background;or double inking and misting with water to create a unique effect.

Personal Project Highlights:

This is a project that took me a lot of work and effort and that I love the look of and am proud of. It also holds a lot of sentimental meaning to me as it includes a lot of things I love and hold dear; my husband and grandson, my last dog that I had, etc.

Others I love are:

Love how it turned out and it's my other grandson.

Favorite stamp and fun project made in one of my favorite card making class with @sideoats.

Project Bucket List:

I would love to travel to all or as many National Parks and States as we can and would love to make an album highlighting a photo from each one or my dream vacation bucket list photo from Bora Bora. Got to have dreams and goals!

What Now?

Just got back from my first international trip to Ireland and want to make a album showcasing that. I haven't had a chance to edit and print all my photos(my least favorite thing about scrapbooking).

Shout-Out!

It's hard to single out just one member but I would like to give a shout out to all who give me help and encouragement and love and supportive feedback both the SC community as well as the Creative Team members and those in Customer Service. I worked several years in that field and it can be very demanding and hard to keep a positive attitude, but SC team members have been very helpful and kind and always try to give a positive experience when helping, especially @SarahKH. I would also love to give a shout out to crafting team idols @sideoats, @aniamaria and @designeditor, whose work I aspire to. Thanks for this great honor of being chosen for the Member Spotlight.
