10th Anniversary Challenge | Color

For even more 10th Anniversary fun, we've rounded up ten of our favorite past blog challenges. We've asked our current Creative Team to share their take on these fun challenges, and we hope you'll play along too!

In this weekly challenge from 2013, Susan Weinroth and Ashley Cannon Newell issued a color challenge to use the following colors on a project: red, pink, aqua, and kraft. They shared their inspiring takes on the challenge.

Susan used all the colors on a bold layout with a black and white photo.

Ashley created a sweet and colorful card.

And here's Creative Team member Kelly Noel's take on this past challenge:

It was so much fun tackling an old challenge and giving it new life! I was so inspired by this color challenge originally given by Susan and Ashley. Pink, aqua, kraft, and red—it's such a fun color combination! I knew I wanted to start with this "See the Beauty" paper from the "Alfresco" Scrapbook Kit. It's such a great page starter—a background and a title all in one! I dug through my stash and couldn't find much aqua that I wanted to use so I used just a small strip down the left side and then a piece of dark aqua washi underneath my photo.

I added pops of red in the wood veneer pieces and a few sequins as well as the strip of striped red/white paper down the right side. I'm pretty much strictly a white or patterned background fan, so instead of incorporating kraft paper, the kraft-ish pops come from the wood veneer pieces as well.

I hope you'll share your take on this color challenge—I can't wait to see what you make!

Let's see how you use these colors for a chance to win a $10 GC to the Studio Calico shop! When you complete this challenge, upload it to the member gallery and leave a link to your project in the comments below. See all of our 10th Anniversary challenges here.

It's not the typical color scheme I'd use so I loved this challenge. https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/204645-hello-happiness

I didn't create this layout with pink and red in mind but it all seemed to come together easily. Thanks for the challenges!

It's hard to get both pink and red on a layout! I used the red dotted paper and also red sequin stars (hard to tell they're red in the photo).

Yeah! And he was doing it on Facebook live, so I got to watch while my daughter was there. It was a big surprise to the people waiting in line for the ride.

I don't tend to use these colors together very often, and I don't think I ever used kraft before but I had so much fun creating this documenter spread. I have used all the colors of the challenge on the week card and on the journalingcard. The red enamel dots I have used look a bit orange in the picture but they are red irl.
    Thank you for the challenge!

My aqua got a little overwhelmed and for kraft, I used the brown tones in the collage paper.

I decided to revisit my Girl Scout Camp 2015 album which is based on Kraft and then I remembered this collection of paper from Basic Grey "Serendipity" that had the red, pinks and aqua.

Pink, aqua, kraft and red. Perfect use for my pink and red crab patterned paper and beach photos. I used stamps the algae stamp to mimic the water splatters on the photo mat, and messily stamped the Salt Sand Sea to give the look of sand and I like how they turned out. I also popped up my kraft colored alphas to give the layout depth and hand sewed with matching kraft colored thread. It took a while to figure out my placement but when I found all those coordinating chipboard pieces it all just fell in place.

This was a hard challenge since I never have enough of the color to do a layout so I created a tag.

I had so much fun creating this LO! Started out with the sunday sketch but ended up getting all the Anniversary challenges into the LO. Red and pink hearts, aqua paper and watercolor and kraft semicircle.
    Thank you for the challenge!
