Sunday Sketch | Kelly Noel

This week our scrapbook sketch is a 9" x 11" layout featuring an angular design as the background to a horizontal photo and square of patterned paper with journaling above and a title below. Our notebook sketch has a verticle photo over stamping and a title with stitching on the left page and scattered elements with journaling on the right. And our pocket page sketch features a 3" x 4" card with heavy journaling and a 3" x 4" photo with a circular embellishment over both pockets. Creative Team member Kelly Noel is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's notebook sketch! Be sure to follow Kelly here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our scrapbook sketch comes from Anna-Maria Wolniak's Make Smart Choices in Your Life layout:

Our notebook sketch comes from Lisa Truesdell's Feels Like Fall spread:

And our pocket page sketch comes from Carson Riutta's Winter Fishing Trip spread:

And here's Kelly's take on our notebook sketch:

Working with sketches is my favorite! I love how sketches inspire me to try things I might not normally otherwise do. For this project, I was really inspired by Lisa's Traveler's Notebook sketch. I loved the random placement of the elements along the right-hand side. Lisa always does such a great job of putting all the little bits in just the right places on her pages.

I mimicked the same look here, but instead of using patterned paper, I used most of the die-cut tags from the "Summit" Scrapbook Kit. I added a few elements to dress up the tags like the chipboard "n", a few stickers, and I mixed a few scraps of patterned paper in, as well.

To balance the busyness of the right side of the page, I kept the left side fairly simple using just a photo and some light journaling underneath the photo. To add a little more interest to that side of the page, I added a large strip of printed vellum from the kit underneath the photo.

I hope you're inspired by this week's sketches and try them out on your next project. We can't wait to see!

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by January 15th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 gift card to Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the January 20th Layout of the Week post.

Remember, no one really has time to make cards these days, right?
I used the card sketch almost every week for years. It actually saved me time!
      RIP.
But I still like having a notebook sketch. I guess I can't have everything.

I almost exclusively use the card sketch! Looking back at previous numbers, a LOT of people use the card sketch. I'm still processing this.

The sunburst from the scrapbook sketch was the inspiration for this card with the florals bursting from the deer's antlers.

I was so inspired by the notebook sketch, but I don't do notebooks so I made a scrapbook layout instead.
