Using the Summit Stamp Subscription Set with Barbara Picinich

When the stamp subscription arrived on my doorstep, I was immediately drawn to all of the different circles. The possibilities really are endless with a stamp set like this and I knew that I was going to create some sort of pattern with it, but I wasn’t sure exactly what that would end up being.

My first step was to get out some ink and just start playing. I put all of the different circle stamps on stamp blocks. Having multiple stamp blocks allows for this kind of play, and if you don’t have multiple stamp blocks, you can use the lids to the stamp pads or put a stamp on both sides of a stamp block, which I end up doing a lot when I’m making repeating patterns. I inked them each up with different colors and just started stamping randomly on a scrap piece of paper. I played around with layering them, linking them, stamping them edge-to-edge in a row, and grouping them in clusters. Eventually, patterns started to emerge and I realized I could make flowers with them.

I really loved how the flowers I could create with the stamp paired with the beautiful floral paper in the 4x6 paper pad. I cut circles with a 1” circle punch to lay in the center of my large circle flowers. There ended up being just the right amount of space to add in one of the circular sentiments, too. I layered in some of the chipboard circles from the Scrapbook Kit and a few of the stickers from the Documenter Kit. Since this is a Traveler's Notebook project, and I typically like to keep things pretty flat, I removed some of the extra layers of the chipboard circles so they would be a bit more low profile. This is easily done by just peeling away from the backside. It will leave you with a nice thin embellishment.

I kept my photo and journaling blocks to a minimum because I didn't want to cover up my pretty stamped flowers. By grouping them in the center of the page, it allowed the stamping to still show, but it also let the photos and journaling be the focal point and not get lost in the background.

I hope this inspires you to take a few moments to simply play with your stamps before you start a project. You never know what types of shapes and patterns you'll find on your scrap sheet of paper. It may surprise you and inspire you all at the same time.
