Using the Hey Girl Scrapbook Kit with Marcy Penner

Tags:

Simple layouts are definitely a big part of my crafty-wheelhouse. Supplies that I love and reach for again and again tend to help me stay focused and result in spreads that I love. For this Traveler's Notebook spread, I limited myself to the main Scrapbook Kit this month, "Hey Girl," gathered up a few of my favorite pieces, and set out to create a simple spread with only those few items.

The neat thing about keeping things simple is that with fewer supplies you can add a bit of punch to your page while still creating a simple and light project.

One way I like to do that is by layering. I had decided that I wanted to create an embellishment cluster on the left page so there wasn't going to be any traditional layering as far as patterned paper goes but I could definitely layer embellishments. This happened in two different ways on my spread.

In the first instance, I layered a puffy sticker on top of a wood veneer piece to create a dimensional embellishment. This can tend to be a little bulky so I don't do it too often. In the second instance, I trimmed a heart out of patterned paper and then trimmed another out of a scrap of the patterned vellum from the vellum numbers in the kit. (This particular piece came from the inside of one of the numbers so it wasn't being used anyway!). I folded both of these in half and stapled them together along the crease. I love how this technique adds dimension without the bulk.

Layering can extend beyond patterned papers and add dimension and texture to any project! Give it a try!
