photo prompts | Tina Aszmus

Hey everyone! Tina here with your week of photo prompts. For this set of prompts, I want to focus on smart phone photography. These itty bitty cameras have been a huge game changer not only in the photography world but for us memory keepers as well. It's easier than ever to capture everyday moments and inject a little creativity into them.

1. Summer is.

This one is simple. Capture your summer whether thats your toes in warm sand or camping in the great outdoors.

2. Get low.

This is a great perspective when snapping photos. I especially love this angle when shooting kiddos. Seeing the world on their level, it's pretty awesome.

3. Bokeh.

This may seem tricky but it's really quite simple. Find an area that's going to give you great bokeh. I usually shoot the birch trees in my backyard when the sun is setting or rising from behind them. City shots are great for this too. Hold your hand in front of the lens and focus. Quickly remove your hand and snap away. The camera will hold the blur for a few seconds and you'll end up with a beautifully bokehfied photo.

4. Bought & Loved.

I've done a lot of thrifting this summer but have been very selective with what I bring home in order to keep myself from hoarding. I only purchase things I truly love. Maybe you purchased something really cool at your favorite store recently. Capture it.

5. Refection.

I love this form of self portraits. Find a mirror or a window and make it interesting. This is especially fun to do with a a friend or loved one.

6. Doing/Making.

Set up that self timer app and show us what you're currently doing and/or making.

7. Color Block.

This was something I did on accident. I was looking through my camera roll and noticed that there was a series of reds + pinks in my stream. The next week, I noticed more blues and so on.

Try shooting a series of color blocks of your own. This can be done in one day or in a course of a week. Pick a color and start shooting!

I hope you try all of these prompts! It's a fun way to break out of the norm or if you're simply uninspired. If you're an Instagram user, we here at Studio Calico would love to see your take on these prompts! Tag your photos using #SCphotoprompts.

A few notes on my photos. I shoot with an iPhone 4s and use the Afterlight app almost 100% of the time. I also use the app on self timer photos as well.
