How long have you been working with Studio Calico?
I've been with SC since 2007 designing layouts with kits and now I'm pretty much doing my dream job of designing product for the kits. Seeing the designs come to life in print and rubber stamps still makes me giddy. Then the fun part begins of putting it in use and seeing other members use my designs....well, that is just the icing on the cake.
Can you tell us about your creative process? What mediums do you work with, what inspires you?
I still find photography and nature to be the most inspiring in my creative process. I often see lines, patterns and layouts in those two things which is generally a jump off point in my personal projects. I like to watercolor and sketch using a felt tip pen or brush pen and I do a lot of illustration on the computer. I also love to work with different fonts and I like to keep up on current trends and things that are just emerging via Pinterest when I'm creating Project Life cards and stamps for the kits. Not only do I keep myself in mind when designing items for the kits (would I use this in my own scrapbook) but I like to keep other paper crafters in mind. I want to be able to design something beautiful, cool and current but also very usable.
Would you mind giving us a peek into your creative space?
Well...it always seems to be in a state of disarray. I dream of an office where everything is in it's place and off the floor but it's just not my own reality and I've come to accept that. It's my little box of a room filled with things I love and treasure and use. The room is still in the middle of being redone. It's been a slow process but it's nice to have the space back since I've been working in my dining room for the past few years. I downsized my workspace with a smaller metal desk I found at the local thrift store. It's placed next to the window because there's nothing more inspiring than working in natural daylight. I also share my creative space with my son but a lot of times I take over his desk space, especially when a new SC kit arrives.
We’d love to see more of your art! Could you share a couple of your favorite projects?
Sure! This summer I introduced posters in my shop. I've always had a love for b&w photography and I love seeing them on such a large scale. The travel journal I made for an upcoming trip. I can't wait to fill it treasures and memories. And the In the Woods stamp set that will be on sale at reveal this month. So crazy for bears right now.
Where can we find more of your work?
The LifeLovePaper shop which is currently closed since I'm headed off to explore the PNW. It will reopen October 1st.
I show a lot of my work on Instagram, my blog and of course Pinterest!
