Tutorial: Using Hand-Cut Letters

Hi everyone! I'm here as a guest sharing a scrapbook layout featuring hand-cut letters, which I know you have seen from me before. This time the entire layout is based on the letters. There were so many GREAT pattern papers in the Brimfield Scrapbook kit and the Typewriter add-on, that I wanted to use every last scrap!

So, pull out all those little leftover scraps of pattern paper and your Small Precision Scissors and start cutting. This is the perfect, relaxing, watching Netflix while you cut, sort of activity. I like to lay out my letters as I cut, so I know approximately how it's going to fit. As you'll see, the word, "made" didn't end up fitting, but I'm totally fine when that happens, because I like to do quirky little details to make it work.

I cut a star from the star transparency sheet to place behind the photo. I also cut the photo into a sort of circle. It's been a while since I cut a photo into a shape! I also added one of the mint and gold phrases over the photo.

I typed out Maci's newborn stats on some of the scrap graph/floral pattern paper. I also typed the word, "made" onto a label.

I added another strip of the graph/floral paper at the bottom of the page, including more of the floral in this strip. I also layered another label under the typed "made" label. I added a handwritten reference to the verse.

Whenever I hand cut letters for journaling or title work, I like to stitch them down, rather than adhering them with adhesive. I like the way they lift up a little and aren't flat to the page. Plus I feel like they are even more secure when stitched.

I like that I was able to make a complete page, just using up scraps of paper. Paper that I loved and didn't want to waste even one little scrap of!
