Using the Starlight Kits with Carson Riutta

Hello, my crafty friends! Happy September and an even happier back to school for all you parents out there. I’m just about back in the swing of things now that my two boys are back to school and I can spend more than 10 minutes working on a project. In fact, I had so much time on my hands this past week that I decided to create a fun little insert for my documenter album using a few of my favorite photos from the past year.

When I get my photos printed, I often have a few left over from the month which end up in a pile next to my desktop. Every once in a while, I find it fun to go through these photos and create a “big picture” page like the one you see here. These three photos were taken at totally different times and in very different places, but they are great photos and deserve a place in my album. In this case, I decided to make an insert about how much I love my little family. We often call ourselves “Team Riutta,” so I decided to really play up that sports analogy in my journaling and through my embellishments.

One of my favorite little tricks when creating an insert is to use the Design G page protector and flip it upside down so that you get a horizontal 4" x 6" slot at the top, which is perfect for a title. I also love to fill the vertical 4" x 6" slots with 4" x 4" photos and add cut journaling cards to the tops and bottoms to fill the remaining inches. I recommend flipping over your favorite inserts to see if you can create a new design that will add interest to your albums.

I used a great mix of products from the "Starlight" Kits to create this insert, my favorite being all the super cute embellishments in the Lyra add-on kit! Those enamel crosses and that stamp set are both so sweet and so easy to use. I also loved using an assortment of stickers from the Free Falling sticker set and of course all the beautiful cards in the main kit. Having so many great supplies at your fingertips makes creating beautiful pages a snap!

I hope you’re enjoying your "Starlight" Kits as much as I am. And I hope you’ll stretch them by creating some inserts for your albums this month. Happy crafting, friends!

What a fun, vibrant page! and thanks for the idea to flip the insert. Duh! I never would have thought of that, and I love how it turned out.
