10th Anniversary Challenge | Use Angles

For even more 10th Anniversary fun, we've rounded up ten of our favorite past blog challenges. We've asked our current Creative Team to share their take on these fun challenges, and we hope you'll play along too!

In this weekly challenge from 2013, Creative Team member Robyn Werlich challenged you to incorporate angles in your papercrafts. Angles create a fun design element on any project—Robyn shared how she used them in her layout.

And here's Creative Team member Lisa Truesdell's take on this past challenge:

This challenge turned out to be, well, rather a challenge for me! I don't often work with angles—they just don't fit my grid-loving style! After a few false starts, I realized that my normal "photos and little bits of paper" was NOT going to work on an angle. I started over with this notebook spread and it came together in a flash. The left side is more traditional—I messy stamped waves with the new patterned builder stamp, then added my photo over the top. For the right side, I cut the green and gray papers at an angle and layered them over the yellow paper, and then tucked in a few embellishments. I stamped a few phrases and my date at the same angle as the papers, and I love how it helps to play up the design of the page.

Supplies: Kits - "Silver Lake Lodge" Planner & Scrapbook, Summer camp add-on; Stamps - Nature Pattern Builder, Summer Holiday; Ink : Color Theory Power Suit, Something Blue, Deja Blue, Mojito and Glass Slipper, Other - sequins

Let's see how you use angles for a chance to win a $10 GC to the Studio Calico shop! When you complete this challenge, upload it to the member gallery and leave a link to your project in the comments below. See all of our 10th Anniversary challenges here.

@gluestickgirl I think the angled design is perfect for your photo as it plays off the angle of the shadow.

Loved the angles you used, I stuck pretty close to yours for my layout. https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/204645-hello-happiness

I started this with the angles in mind...and used some leftovers from past kits. Thanks for the inspiration!

Angled lines are a little difficult for me - here's my take using bold, angled label stripes to highlight my photo: https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/204686-official-evidence

Last year on holiday our youngest son got seasick when we went on a dolphin safari, so a challenge using angles is spot on I think. I have placed photos, papers, washi tape and a stamp at an angle. Thank you for the Challenge!

I used angles on this layout of my son and grandson. I stamped on my alphas diagonally in three different colors that appear in my photos and in the patterned paper I used. I arranged them at an angle coming down the page. I also cut cardstock at an angle to look like photo corners to emphasize the blue from my top photo, and then stamped at an angle in the corner of my top photo and added embellishments there too.

Love those layouts! I decided to go with a sunburst pattern to incorporate a number of angles and also angled part of my title. Thanks for the inspiration! https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/205360-one-year-with-lincoln

I had so much fun creating this LO! Started out with the sunday sketch but ended up getting all the Anniversary challenges into the LO. The papers on the LO are placed at an angle.
    Thank you for the challenge!
