Sunday Sketch | Meghann

We asked Meghann Andrew (username megnard) to join us this week to share her take on our sketches. She has a fun way with embellishments and adding little details that add up to a big impact.

First, let's start with our sketches. Our layout sketch is from Tina Aszmus :

And our card sketch is from Dana Fleckenstein:

Meghann couldn't help but see the potential in both of these sketches...so she made TWO projects to share. We always love to see a card sketch used for a layout!

Supplies: Roundabout scrapbook kit + Navy Pier add-on

I was drawn to this sketch because I often only use one photo on my layouts and because I like clusters of embellishments around my photo that create a visual triangle, so this was perfect for me. I began by layering pieces of patterned paper, my photo and tickets cut from the Basic Grey Carte Postale paper to layer up as embellishment. Like Tina, I used the white space in my photo to house the main part of my title, using the awesome Crate Paper letter tiles and added my subtitle above by stamping those awesome alpha stamps. Finally, I added the star embellishments, included arrows to draw attention to my title & finished off with a few drips of mist.

Supplies: Neverland scrapbook kit, Block Party scrapbook kit (polka dot paper only), watercolors, water brush, SC wood veneer birds

When I saw the card sketch, I knew it would be fantastic to use on a layout with one really stand-out photo. I stayed true to the sketch & cut my photo to a 4" circle & backed it with a 4.5" piece of patterned paper. I layered the polka dot paper with the stripe that I cut to look like a ribbon. To add some softness & a different texture, I added the teal ribbon, and since I didn't feel like pulling out my sewing machine, I just scrunched it together with some super sticky red tape on the back. This was where I got lost & couldn't decided on my embellishment, until I pulled out the Amy Tangerine rub-ons. Once I had those in place, I knew they would be gorgeous colored in, so I pulled out my watercolors and had so much fun! I completed the page with journaling in the 'sentiment' area, enamel dots, wood veneer birds and a few splats of Mr. Huey's.

Thank you for letting us share your work today, Meghann! If you'd like to see more of Meghann's work, check out her Studio Calico gallery and her blog

Cute sketches! I used the layout sketch for this page, using confetti in place of the triangles:

Fun card sketch! I applied it to a layout since I don't make many cards. I also don't cut many photos in circles so this was a great change of pace! Here's my take: http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/95843-sunday-brunch
