Sunday Sketch | Marcy Penner

This week our scrapbook sketch is a 12" x 12" layout separated into two sections with different patterned papers, featuring a photo-strip-style collage of three photos on the right side of the page, and a grid-design placement of large embellishments on the left side. Our notebook sketch has six photos throughout both pages with journaling and titles surrounding each photo. And our pocket page sketch features a 3" x 4" card with heavy journaling and a 3" x 4" photo with sentiment sewn on top. Creative Team member Marcy Penner is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's notebook sketch! Be sure to follow Marcy here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our scrapbook sketch comes from Kelly Noel's Goodbye layout:

Our notebook sketch comes from Lisa Truesdell's 2017 Year in Review | January spread:

And our pocket page sketch comes from Pam Baldwin's Northern Lights Documenter spread:

And here's Marcy's take on our scrapbook sketch:

Hi, everyone! It's Marcy here, back with another Sunday Sketch layout for you! This month, I was torn between a couple of the sketches...they're all so good! In the end, I settled on the sketch based on Kelly's scrapbook page since I could so easily see it translate into a notebook spread.

Kelly's page featured a strong split from the left to right side of her page that I immediately gravitated towards. I decided to keep that split and feature a spattering of embellishments on the left page of my notebook and the photo and journaling on the right.

For the right page, I trimmed a piece of ledger paper to size and adhered my photo. The left side evolved from a spattering of embellishments once I realized that I was gravitating to things that were mostly circular in shape for some reason. Once I realized that, I focused on a trail of circular elements working diagonally across my page. To fill in any large gaps and to add a bit of color, I cut some more circles out of patterned paper and stitched those in place, as well.

The result is a notebook spread that stays true to the sketch but finds it's own whimsical yet simple vibe at the same time.

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by February 5th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 gift card to Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the February 10th Layout of the Week post.

I used the pocket page sketch to create the middle two cards for this layout. I used Pam's technique of putting the small square letters on scrap paper and then attaching to the photo/card....worked like a dream.

I used the pocket page sketch. Sorry for the awful photo. It's a bit dark and gloomy here today.

I knew when I saw Kelly Noel's layout, that I had to use red paper and document these photos of my great-niece. https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/210058-tutu
