LOTW | Vicki

Our Layout of the Week, Notes to Self, comes from our member Vicki (username vickiLFunk). This layout was Vicki's first project ever uploaded to the SC gallery. Her attention to detail here is fantastic and we adore the bright colors and grid design of her layout. We are so looking forward to seeing more of her work here in the future! Here's what Vicki has to say about her layout:

I absolutely love signing up for Studio Calico's online classes because they are so convenient for me (read that as "because I can take part in my PJ's"!), but I never seem to get my pages made while the class is running. This time I decided I was going to make a concerted effort to play along as I watch the lessons, especially since I am signed up to both Stitched and Mixed Media! For this layout I was inspired by Paige's first lesson in the Stitched classroom where she showed us how to do a whip stitch - I have never done it before so I thought it would be fun to give it a try. I knew I was going to be playing with a few different stitches on this layout so I planned the grid quite early on in the process so that all the different little elements and stitches each had their own little place to call home. I tried stitching through both the paper and also the thin wood veneer elements and I'm pleased to report the wood veneer were actually easier to stitch through than I thought they would be - as with the paper, the trick is to pierce your stitch holes before you go ahead and stitch with the cotton (and don't get too close to the edges or the wood veneer splits - I've learnt the hard way!). I'm so excited and honoured that this layout has been so well received by the Studio Calico members as it is the first one I've ever been brave enough to upload to the gallery.
