Sunday Sketch | JJ

This week, our layout sketch is an 12x12 layout with a grouping of photos at the top. Our card sketch features a quadrant of patterned papers & our Project Life sketch uses a photo with plenty of room for embellishing. Creative Team member, JJ Bolton, is joining us this week & sharing her take on our card sketch. Be sure to follow JJ here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our 12x12 layout sketch comes from Natalie Elphinstone's Search layout:

Our card sketch comes from Robyn Werlich's Happy Hello card:

And our Project Life sketch comes from Lisa Truesdell's Disney Handbook Go spread:

Now let's see JJ's take on our card sketch:

Sketches are a great way to get your creativity flowing because there’s no right way or wrong way to be inspired! For my card, I was inspired by sketch taken from Robyn’s awesome Camelot card! Instead of going completely literal with the sketch, I honed in on the idea of splitting my card into quadrants just like Robyn.

In making my card, I used a technique I like to call stacked stamping. You stamps 2 layers with the same image and pop up one layer with foamy tape. The stamps I used were from the 2 large frames from the Merlin kit. I stamped them once onto a watercolor paper card base. Then I stamped the same exact images onto a separate piece of watercolor paper. On that separate piece, I watercolored the images and then I die cut it 4 times (quadrants, remember?) with my Wonky Heart craft dies. (Remember if you want to watercolor stamped images, use a water-fast ink like Versafine Onyx Black) Then I took the 4 hearts and layered them onto the card base with pieces of foam tape. I made sure that the images exactly matched so that the final result looks like one seamless image. (I promise this is easier than it sounds!) To finish off card, I added my sentiment and a few puffy heart stickers just like the sketch. I had so much fun with this sketch!

Which one of the Sunday sketches inspires you? As always, I can’t wait to see what you all create!

Supplies: Stamps (Merlin Add-on Kit, Morgan), Heart Dies (Wonky Heart Craft Dies), Puffy Stickers Gold Hearts, Mister Huey’s Watercolor Set, Versafine Onyx Black Ink
