Weekly Challenge | Fill the Negative Space with Olatz

This week, our member Olatz (username olatz), is challenging you to use a die cut shape and fill it up with alphas or embellishments. We're excited to turn our weekly challenges over to the SC community! Check in each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure to follow Olatz here at Studio Calico to see more of her work and keep up with her!

Hi there! This is Olatz. I'm so excited to be sharing one of my favorite layouts at the moment with you as well as a challenge. I was inspired by the patterns of the awesome Ashley Goldberg papers (from the Penny Arcade SB Main kit) to create a page about one of my favorite summer treats: Strawberries. So, for this layout I decided to use a circular 2" punch to create kind of like windows which I could fill with pretty embellishments / little details to help telling my story. As you can see, I am in love with the actual trend of using circles! But with what I had the most fun with, was filling two of the circles with wood veneer letters to spell my title "strawberry". I love the way they are a big part of the page but without being too overwhelming, as they are softly peeking from the die-cut circles. So, my challenge to you this week is to use any kind of die-cut shape (it can be a circle, a heart, a diamond or anything really) and fill them with pretty alphabet letters or simply with other type of embellishments that you like... the possibilities are endless! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Olatz's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by August 25th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's Challenge winner will be announced in the September 6th Layout of the Week post.
