Weekly Challenge | Digital Templates & Songs with Pam

This week, our member Pam (username PamBaldwin), is challenging you to try your hand at a digital template or use song lyrics on your next project. We're excited to turn our weekly challenges over to the SC community! Check in each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure to follow Pam here at SC and visit her blog to see more of her work and keep up with her!

Emily and I have a song...it's Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. For her first birthday, I was browsing the shelves at the bookstore and found this adorable extended version of the song, written as a children's book. I was reading it in the middle of the children's department and trying not to embarrass myself with the ugly cry... it was so perfect! (Here it is in case you were wondering) The words in this little story expressed EXACTLY how I feel about my daughter, and I knew for sure that I needed to document it. Especially since it's our song!!

And then along came Laura Kurz's Pen and Paper class...and included in this brilliant (yes, brilliant!) class, is a digital template created by Shanna Noel, based on one of Laura's layouts (this one!!). It was a perfect fit! I found a picture of my sleeping Emily that I love (she was just 3 days old here), and used the journaling spaces to write out the lyrics. I kept the embellishments to a minimum as I often do, but I did include an Ali Edwards digital stamp along the top (the Story Frames), and filled in the half circles with some patterned paper from the Poet Society kit. Using a digital template made this one of the fastest layouts I have ever made, and I really love how it turned out!
So here comes the challenge part: I would like to challenge you to make a hybrid page using a digital template for your next layout. Now...if you're saying "woah Pam....you've got the wrong person, I don't do "digital"...I would really like to encourage you to check out the
FREE Digital Basics class right here at Studio Calico. It even includes a digital template that you can use for this very challenge! Don't have Photoshop/Photoshop Elements or don't know how to use it? The Digital Basics class will walk you through step-by-step to get a free trial. You know when the layout that you have in your head just doesn't translate well onto paper....I find that planning it out in Photoshop Elements really helps me to bridge that gap a bit. And using a template, you really can't go wrong!

Of course, I don't want to exclude ANYBODY! So if digital is REALLY not your thing, (or not your thing yet), I'd love to see what kind of layout you can make using a song. It can be a whole song, or just a verse or the title....completely up to you! Hope you have fun and I can't wait to see what you make!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Pam's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by October 6th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the October 11th Layout of the Week post.

I am starting to love hybrid too. Here is a quick layout created using the Digital Basic Template and lyric that I loved as a child.
