Weekly Challenge | Shaker with Lea

This week, our member Lea (username Lea Lawson), is challenging you to create a shaker element on your next project. We love our talented members! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure to follow Lea here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her!

Hi there SC friends! I am so excited to be hosting this week's challenge for you! This card came to life because of last week's amazing card sketch!! When I saw the circles, I immediately knew that I wanted to use it to create a shaker card. They are super easy to create, and I just love the extra depth they add without adding {too much} bulk. If I hadn't added the twine bow & bells, this card would easily slip into an envelope for sending. I mention that because I think that shaker elements don't just have to be used for cards! I think they can be incorporated into layouts & project life spreads as well, and they will still easily slide into your page protector or pocket page. I've created shaker cards from a lot of different types of product out there, but here is a basic guide on how to create one!
1. Cut a solid block of any type of paper or cardstock to be your base.
2. Use or create a frame for the top layer. (You can use a premade frame, or create one using papers & dies/punches.)
3. Cover the frame opening with a transparency block.
4. Place a clump of sequins &/or glitter in the middle of the base layer.
5. Add foam tape (I use 1/16th in. thickness) around all the edges of the frame opening so none of sequins can slip out.
6. Adhere the frame layer to the top of the base layer, then shake the sequins &/or glitter until they break up from the middle.
After you make one, you might just be addicted! :) My challenge to you today is to add a shaker element to your card, layout or project life spread. I can't wait to see what you create!!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Lea's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by December 1st and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the December 6th Layout of the Week post.
