Our Layout of the Week, Sharp Dressed Man, comes from our member Erica (username elhernandez). Erica created this layout based on one of our Sunday Sketches using the Far Far Away scrapbook kit. I based this layout on the weekly sketch from last week - the square photo element caught my eye as almost all of my photos lately are of the phone variety. I first started with a solid card stock base but it felt a little sparse so I played around with other patterns and on a whim, tried the floral - it turned out to be the perfect complement to the patterned paper I’d already chosen for the top half. I chose a couple of other papers to cut small strips from - the reds and blues worked so well with the photo. The title was the impetus for the layout - song lyrics are always a favorite starting point and a fun way to incorporate a bit of font work. To balance things out, I embellished a bit at the top, with an acetate letter stapled over the journaling, and sticker and painted veneer at the bottom. These layouts that focus on the little details of the day bring me so much satisfaction. The holidays and special occasions all tend to blend together but these moments are the ones I really want to hold onto - especially as my kids grow and the number of “firsts” they experience diminish so quickly.
