Take Some Time to Scrap about YOU! | Brooke Takara

Hi there! Like many of you, scrapbooking is my jam. I love it. I'm invested. It's something I turn to for stress relief and a bit of me time. I love that I'm able to document my family's stories and events while exercising my creativity. Scrapbooking is so much a part of who I am, right now. BUT...As much as scrapbooking is a part of my life, I am missing in a lot of my scrapbooks!!!

Yes, I do Project Life, which documents our day-to-day activities. Yes, the majority of the journaling is in my own voice and from my perspective. But it's almost always about my children and my family and how they felt or how I *think* they felt.

I very rarely include snippets about what I'm into at the moment or even photos of myself, since I'm always behind the lens.

So these are things I'm actively working on...taking more selfies, asking others to take the photo and scrapbooking more about me! I'm pledging to keep these tasks at the forefront of my mind so that I'm more of a presence in my scrapbooks. Starting with this project...

This layout documents my favorites for the month of April. Of course, the background had to be yellow. It's my favorite color to scrapbook with. It's bright and cheery and to me, it's neutral without being boring.

I wanted to use the jumbo black numbers from Heidi Swapp that came in the Pantomime add-on kit so this turned into a layout with list journaling. This style of journaling is actually a great way to ease into scrapbooking yourself. You don't have to get super deep and pour your heart out in your journaling. And you don't have to worry about things like paragraph structure, etc. You're simply jotting points down quickly.

To drive home the "Love" in the "Love List", I wanted to go crazy with hearts. I drew out a few different style hearts in the colored squares of the Baxter paper and cut them out to use as embellishments.

I adhered the hearts to the page randomly and only put adhesive down the center of the heart so I could flip up the edges for dimension.

After adding a bit of stitching to some of the hearts, I called upon my favorite stamp of the moment (from the Dean add-on kit) to add interest to the page.

I'm patting myself on the back a little because of the title work here. I'm one of those people who never thinks about the title until the layout is 99.9% finished and there's no room left to place a title. Here, I used the wooden "April" from the Lisse Street Project LifeĀ® Kit in addition to some black Thickers from the Dean scrapbook add-on and tiny block letters from the Hyacinth add-on kit.

So there you have it! One of the very few layouts just about me. In fact, now that I think about it, I think it's the first layout to feature a photo of me, by myself, since I scrapbooked in high school!! Whoa.

I'm starting to realize how important it is to remember to document ourselves in our scrapbooks. If anything, just for fun. I think it'll be great to look back on this layout in a year and recall what my favorite things were in April 2015.

I hope to continue to remind myself to do this. And I hope you do too!

Thanks so much for joining me here today! Have a great weekend!!

Hey @Kaybree! Sorry about that - we had a glitch on the site and it effected this post, but now it's fixed (except for the author - which is really Brooke versus myself ;) )

@CreativeNikki, check it out now and the photos are here :)

Cutting those hearts out of the Baxter paper was genius and I love your handwriting..I had to enlarge #5 to see if it really said what I thought it said...
