Mixed Media Techniques | Kim Stewart

For this page I wanted to create some sort of lightly textured background for my photo so I decided to paint a shape in the grey color along with a few leaves. Just something to create a little interest in the background. I practice painting every day as just a way of becoming better at it, so using watercolors on a scrap page has almost become a constant for me. After I painted my background, for a little added texture, I used a little bit of a thicker medium paint and added it to the insides of each square. It has a more gritty texture and just adds a level of dimension. You could also paint them in different colors or add little embellishments to each square.

I kept everything else very simple and loved the way it came out! The thing I like about trying new art techniques is that it’s always a jumping off point to inspire something more. I’m already thinking about trying this process again in a bigger way and adding small embellishments to each square.

I simply love the process of trying new artistic techniques and the time just seems to slip away while playing! I do hope you pull out those watercolors and paints and add a some art to your pages. It’s just so fun!
