#NSDSC15 | Challenge 01 - Picture Your Mood with Kelly Noel and Dana Fleckenstein

Happy NSD everyone! Are you ready to start crafting? This year, we're starting things off with a mood board challenge! We've put together a mood board filled with aqua, navy, fuchsia, and yellow tones. You should be able to find these colors in our three most recent kits - Carolina Moon, Lisse Street, and Odyssey- but please feel free to use any product you like for this challenge!

Dana Fleckenstein: At first, I couldn't decide on which of the elements I wanted to actually use from the beautiful mood board. So, I took only a quick glance to then write down what I could remember. What stuck with me was the overall color theme, the repeated black sentiments in the second row, as well as the flowers and Japanese pattern from the tile in the lower right. Since I also liked the square tiles, I ended up with a square 4x4 inch card and managed to incorporate all of the elements I had noted.

Supplies: kits - Odyssey card kit, Roller Rink card kit, Camelot card kit;stamps - You Rock stamp set; ink: Onyx Black Versafine, Color Theory Mint Hint ink refill; paints: Color Theory Mint Hint, Color Theory Sunny Day; other: white hemp twine, pink felt

Kelly Noel: The first thing that popped out at me from the NSD mood board were the fun bright colors! The floral paper from the Penelope add-on had lots of the mood board colors, so I used that paper as my starting point. The other thing I loved about the mood board were some of the graphic patterns, like the hexagons and the patterns found in the pillows. I used the Crate floral paper and a yellow striped paper to create a patterned background for my card. Finally, the tiny pop of gold in the earrings inspired the gold sentiment and embellishments. I love using a mood board for inspiring a project, whether it sparks a color or design jumping off point, it's always a fun way start to a project!

Supplies: Kits - Penelope add-on, Frank add-on, Lily add-on; Paper - More Vanilla; Adhesive - This To That Foam Tab Circles

We can't wait to see your take on this challenge! To be entered to win a prize from the Calico Closet, please post your project in the Studio Calico Gallery by May 10th and add the tag #NSDSC1 in the description. Challenges may be combined - just add both tags in your description. Winners will be posted on Monday, May 11th.

My take is that you just need to use the mood board for inspiration and create whatever you would like. Use the colors, pattern, textures, theme...whatever that inspires you!

    Good luck & have fun!

Here's my take - I used the softer tones from the mood board and more importantly I actually used on of the silkscreens from a kit - I even mixed the gold and blush crush paints

I have been doing my PL monthly and have enjoyed the format. I am thinking about going to weekly in 2014 but only on 1 page. I'm not sure if I have enough pictures to cover weekly since our lives are basically repetitive.
