Featured Artist | Peppermint Granberg

Peppermint Jones has been adding her keen stamp design skills and knack for putting together gorgeous color schemes on journal cards to work in our kits for years. She's a decisive, energetic talent whose contributions are totally swoon-worthy! Two recent big hits were her stamps from the Lisse Street and Carolina Moon Project Life® kits, and she continually churns out designs that are delightful and utilitarian! Keep an eye out for her One Little Bird logo in upcoming kits, and take a few minutes to become better acquainted with Peppermint, from her workspace, to where she finds inspiration and more! See more of her work on her Instagram at @peppermintgranberg and her website at www.onelittlebirddesigns.com.

How long have you been working with Studio Calico?

I started working with Studio Calico shortly after the Project Life® kits debuted in 2013. I contributed Project Life cards to the Planetarium kit a little over two years ago (wow!) and eventually began to contribute paper and stamp designs, as well. 2015 has been the year of the stamps, for sure! I've really loved having the opportunity to work with everyone here at Studio Calico for the past couple of years.

Can you tell us about your creative process? What mediums do you work with, what inspires you?

My design process is mostly digital, so if Adobe Illustrator counts as a "medium" then that's the clear choice! I don't have an elaborate or consistent design process, it fluctuates quite a bit depending on whether I'm working on a project that's fairly predetermined vs. one that's more organic and completely up to me.

I'm definitely a "collector of pretty things" and I like to spend time looking through items that I've collected, asking myself what I'm most drawn to in each image. Most of the time it's typography, or a color palette - but other times I'm drawn to the overall mood of an image. I collect a lot of quotes and phrases, and I suppose the one consistent part of my design process is that I like to make handwritten lists of related words and sentiments before I start a project. I have a hard time beginning without a clear message, but I try not to stubbornly stick to it if I find myself pulled in a different direction as I go.

Would you mind giving us a peek into your creative space?

Definitely! My office is a light-filled addition off the back of our house that I completely adore. I have three walls that are mostly windows, so I have to get creative when it comes to storage and organization with such a lack of wall space. It's an extremely bright and cheerful workspace, though - I always smile when I walk into my office in the morning. Sometimes in the summer when I have all of the windows open it feels as though I'm working outside in our backyard.

We’d love to see more of your art! Could you share a couple of your favorite projects?

I incorporate my digital products quite a bit in my personal album in hybrid and digital layouts, as well as Project Life pocket pages. This year I have a mixed format album mixing pockets with layouts in one album, in a variety of sizes. It's been an inspiring change of pace for me, I feel as though I have a lot more creative freedom this way.

Where can we find more of your work?

You can find my digital products for sale in the One Little Bird shop at The Lilypad. You can also keep tabs on what I'm up to by following me on Instagram at @peppermintgranberg and on my website at www.onelittlebirddesigns.com.
