Sunday Sketch | Kelly Noel
This week, our scrapbook sketch is a 9" x 12" layout with two square photos, a stamped background, and a bold title in an upper corner. Our card sketch features a bold title over a watercolor wash with minimal embellishing, and our pocket page sketch features a 3" x 4" pocket card with a centered photo and a 3" x 4" title card with heavy journaling. Creative Team member Kelly Noel is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's scrapbook sketch! Be sure to follow Kelly here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.
Our scrapbook sketch comes from Lisa Truesdell's That Face layout:
Our card sketch comes from Lisa Spangler's Oh Hello card:
And our pocket page sketch comes from Jen Chapin's BFF Documenter Page spread:
And here's Kelly's take on our scrapbook sketch:
Sketches are one of my favorite jumping off points, and I was so excited to see a sketch based on one of Lisa's layouts for this week's sketches. Lisa has such a distinct style—nobody uses little bits the way she does! I knew I wanted to mimic the way she used stamped images, paper and photos to create sort of a random quilted look. Though my style is a little more clean lined, I was still able to take inspiration from her page.
To start, I chose a few pieces of patterned paper (and a cut up Documenter card) and adhered them on the page leaving room for my two photos. I tried to keep things free and random like Lisa did, but I couldn't help but keep them in some sort of row/order. I added stamped sentiments to fill in the "blank" spaces. I opted to leave the title off of my page, but I used the sketch as inspiration for where to put the journaling. I typically use my printer for the journaling, but I ran out of ink as I was finishing up this layout, so handwriting was necessary. I don't "love" my handwriting, but I think it does add a nice personal touch to this layout.
Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by March 20th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 gift card to Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the March 25th Layout of the Week post.
Quick and Super Simple layout using the new March Stamp Sub. Somehow those old Studio Calico Stars from "Abroad" floated to the top of my embellishments so I really wanted to use them.

A card using the card sketch. I loved Lisa Spangler's watercolor background behind the greeting, so I used washi strips for a similar effect. https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/200845-st-patrick-s-day-birthday
