Guest Designer | Kelly Goree

We're thrilled to have the lovely and talented, Kelly Goree, as one of our guest designers this month, and excited to get to know her better today! Be sure to follow Kelly here at Studio Calico to keep up with her and see more of her beautiful work.

I'm Kelly Goree. I'm a wife, mom to three boys who are turning quickly into men, and a professional photographer. I love to decorate, shop, read, and Insta-stalk! I adore McD's diet coke, sunshine, the color aqua, and polka dots. I am a girly girl, and that's not always easy in a house full of boys (including the dog), so the craft room is mine and full of all my favorite things—especially anything frilly that I can't stick in another part of the house!

Creating has always been in my life, from making my own miniature doll furniture out of cardboard as a child to working with several manufacturers and magazines as a scrapbooker for more than 10 years. Currently, my creative outlet is my photography business.

Obsessed Brace Face: The star paper was one of my favorites in this kit, and I used it a couple of times. But I also loved its "side B," which reminded me a bit of braces and thus this layout was born. As an added bonus, this kid had been bugging me that his milestones weren't being scrapbooked anymore so I got to check that off the list, too!

Lady Boss Type: For this project, it started 100% with those adorable die-cuts from Simple Stories. As soon as I started looking through them, I was reminded of my life as a mom, a photographer, and running my own business. I made it a goal to showcase as many of them as I could with my project, so I thought the grid pattern was perfect for vignettes. I didn't even realize until Layle Koncar of Simple Stories told me, but that camera die-cut was actually made to be a washing machine! Eye of the beholder, apparently!

Love Tale: I fell in love with the heart die-cuts, especially the ones that included the gold-foiled words. I wanted to use them, but wasn't sure how until I saw the "tall tale" glittered chipboard. It reminded me of my youngest and the stories he would tell when he was small. Then I remembered this note I had saved in his keepsake box and this layout was born. The soft colors were wonderful for this project, and I loved playing with the die-cut stars and the tone on tone texture.

Nice to get to know you more Kelly!
It made me smile when you said your son was asking you about scrapbooking his milestones. How wonderful he wants you to! : )
Love how you turned the camera into a washing machine!
