Guest Designer | Kim Oedekoven

We're thrilled to have the lovely and talented, Kim Oedekoven, as one of our guest designers this month, and excited to get to know her better today! Be sure to follow Kim here at Studio Calico to keep up with her and see more of her beautiful work.

Glad to be here! The Studio Calico team is fantastic and I couldn’t be happier to be chosen as your May guest. I wish I could call myself a mixed media artist, but that artist part just doesn’t stick. I love to play with all sorts of things like fiber art, planning, scrapbooking, and Project Life® in all different types of medium. In my former life, I taught quilting, journaling, and paper arts classes using textile techniques to people of all walks of life: from blind school students to therapy workshops for cancer survivors to at-risk pregnancy patients. I feel like everyone has a story, and I love to be the happy helper in getting those stories told! Professionally, I have starred in three educational sewing videos for use in high school classrooms and shown my own fiber artwork across the country. It all started when I began learning to traditionally hand-quilt as a young lady, and have since evolved into memory keeping and planning using my beloved fabric techniques.

On a more personal note (and quite possibly a lot less boring of one), since settling in Pennsylvania one year ago from Oregon, I’ve officially become a full-time stay-at-home mom, caring for four sporty, smelly, sweet boys ranging in ages from 4 to 17!

May Planner Kit | Traveler's Notebook Dashboards: I made a series of dashboards and dividers using a modified photo pocket protector and vellum. It’s a great place to use some of those add-on kit alphas from Pink Fresh Studio, along with some ephemera and the fabulous Alfresco Kit paper.

May Planner Kit | Pocket and Dashboard Love: Pockets are helpful for holding the functional pieces necessary for planning. I used the SC packaging to create a notecard, and the One Little Bird notecard is a great addition for jotting down those quick lists.

May Planner Kit | Monthly Task Lists: My monthly to-do page is a blank slate for bright alpha headers. The task list is made by the Alfresco packaging, and a notecard can be slipped into my documenter album as a keepsake of our summer fun!

May Planner Kit | Weekly Layout: For my weekly planning, the ring binder page protector had a cute shape and pattern. I used it to create a landing zone for my weekly notes. The ephemera adds a pop of color, too!
