August's featured teachers

Documenter Kit Workshop - Carson Riutta

Carson has been deeply in love with paper crafting for almost a decade now. She was introduced to card making in 2008 by her soon to be sister-in-law and her joy for the hobby grew quickly from that point on. One by one, she's tried her hand at most forms of memory keeping, including traditional scrapbooking, pocket page documenting, and planner décor. Right now she's happily focusing on her original love of card making and creating monthly documenter spreads as a Studio Calico Creative Team member. When she's not creating, you can find her googling Minecraft terms for her 7-year-old, playing pillow fight Ninjago with her 3-year-old, or doing a bit of YouTube yoga when she finds a quiet moment.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I’m an embellishment junkie and for me, a kit with interesting embellishments is a winner every time. The "Let’s Go" Kit does not disappoint! I love the colorful tabs, the transparency circles, and the beautifully designed chipboard pieces. They all go together seamlessly and allow me to vary my layouts in style and texture.

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, I’ll be giving you permission to use your favorite pieces first—no hoarding allowed. In the second lesson, I’ll be asking you to let go of the endless catch-up game we all play and to scrap in the moment. And in the third lesson, we’ll take a page from A Day in the Life and document an everyday place in our lives that seems like a constant, but is in actuality, always changing.

Takeaways:

I want you to finish this workshop with permission to mix things up, to break out of your usual timeline, and really experiment with theme, color, and creativity. I hope to see you in the classroom!

Planner Kit Workshop - Carla De Taboada

Carla is a thirty-something stay-at-home mom from Lima, Peru, who loves to spend her free time organizing and embellishing her planners, documenting her life, and creating fun, crafty things. She has contributed to Studio Calico planner classes and workshops a few times in the past, and as of this year, has also been part of the SC Creative Team. You can find her at Big Picture Classes and Instagram, too.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

My three favorite things from the "Let’s Go" Planner Kit are first, the beautiful patterned papers with those lovely colors and designs, then the stamps, which are so versatile and functional too, and last but not least, the washi tape! I love that its design has a combination of different colors and textures.

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, I’ll be teaching you how to set up your monthly calendar and a weekly spread using just the main Planner Kit. In the second lesson, I’ll share how you can combine your main Planner Kit with some pieces of our exclusive class digital. And in the third lesson, I’ll show you another weekly spread and a fun and useful little card made with one of the add-on stamp sets.

Takeaways:

At the end of this workshop, you’ll not only be able to organize your monthly, weekly, and daily inserts in a fun way, but you'll also be able to set up your on-the-go planner with just one Planner Kit and a few supplies from your stash!

Scrapbook Kit Workshop - Zinia Amoiridou

Zinia Amoiridou lives in sunny Greece, and she's been interested in stationery and paper crafts for as long as she can remember. She got into the crafting world a few years back when she discovered the amazing community full of wonderful crafters online. She's been stuck ever since! She loves teaching classes on various topics, including scrapbooking and art journaling. And she also works with several companies designing scrapbooking collections and stamp sets.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I honestly love all Studio Calico Kits and this one is no exception. I’m definitely obsessed with the color palette and the pattern selection. They always do such a great job including a mix of multicolored and monochromatic designs. I also adore the whimsical die-cut words—they are so fun and perfect for a quick title. Last but not least, I’m so happy to see the chipboard stickers; it’s my all-time favorite type of embellishment, so I’m really excited to have them.

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, we're going to make an easy page focusing on circles. Then we're going to have some fun creating DIY floral embellishments with the beautiful cut file for this workshop. Last but not least, we'll play around with fussy-cut stamped images.

Takeaways:

I try to give as many tips and ideas as possible throughout the lessons so you can isolate them and implement them in any project you want. A little bit of stamping, a little bit of die-cutting—there’s something for everyone. I also chose to share some ideas that require different amounts of time because I know not everyone can dedicate hours to crafting. So although the technique in lesson three is a little bit time consuming, the first lesson is so quick and easy that you can make it in 10 minutes.
