Sunday Sketch | Maggie Massey

This week our scrapbook sketch is a 12" x 12" layout featuring a grid design of photos with a rounded title and journaling at the top of the page. Our card sketch has a layered central focal point above a title and simple embellishment. And our pocket page sketch features a 3" x 4" photo card with embellishment and a 3" x 4" card with a tag. Creative Team member Maggie Massey is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's scrapbook sketch! Be sure to follow Maggie here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our scrapbook sketch comes from Susan Weinroth's Turning Two layout:

Our card sketch comes from Lisa Spangler's Forever Friends card:

And our pocket page sketch comes from Kelly Noel's July 2016 spread:

And here's Maggie's take on our scrapbook sketch:

Susan's scrapbook page immediately caught my eye—just look at those bright colors and that handsome boy! I had a 4" x 6" photo (in landscape orientation) I wanted to scrap, so I decided to turn the sketch counter-clockwise 90 degrees and use my photo in the same spot Susan used her largest picture.

I filled in the rest of the photo spots with patterned paper from the main Scrapbook Kit and then stitched around each piece to add texture.

Next, I cut a circle from white cardstock and typed my journaling.

Tip: To make typing on this pre-cut shape easier, I adhered the circle to another piece of cardstock using just a single line of tape—I wanted to make sure I could remove it easily. Then, I ran the larger piece of cardstock through my typewriter and added my journaling. I was able to type all the way to the edges without worrying about the paper slipping out of the machine.

Then I simply stamped my title using the new Abigail Alpha stamp set. A single little chipboard star finishes out the page and mimics the set of hearts on Susan's layout.

I love the result! And it was such a quick and easy page to put together!

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by August 21st in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 gift card to Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the August 26th Layout of the Week post.
