Sunday Sketch | Marcy Penner

This week our scrapbook sketch is a 12" x 12" layout featuring a vertical photo over layered patterned papers with journaling to the right and a title at the bottom of the page. Our card sketch has centered stamped images over a title and banner embellishment. And our pocket page sketch features a 4" x 6" photo split over two pockets and a 3" x 4" card showcasing a pocket with tags tucked inside. Creative Team member Marcy Penner is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's documentersketch! Be sure to follow Marcy here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our scrapbook sketch comes from Mandie Pierce's Thankful for You layout:

Our card sketch comes from Lisa Spanger's Thankful card:

And our pocket page sketch comes from Mandie Pierce's Project Life 2017: Week 41 spread:

And here's Marcy's take on our documenter sketch:

Hey everyone! Marcy here with a sketch-based project for you today.

For this spread, I decided to use the documenter sketch and translate that into a notebook spread. Usually, when I start working with a sketch, I'll draw it out, focusing on the elements that I want to use and the type of project I'm creating (see photo above). I figure I may as well eliminate the things that I'm not going to be taking inspiration from right off the bat! The second and third documenter cards jumped out at me here so I focused on those as well as the tags. I also decided to keep the journaling placement on the left side. By honing in on the elements that I want to use, I've already adapted the sketch to my style and my project before I've even busted out my supplies!

The amazing paper in the Planner Kit (also available in the Scrapbook Kit) just screamed to be featured all on its own, so I trimmed a piece that would cover the left side of my spread and typed out some journaling to add near the bottom. I trimmed a 4.25" x 6" piece of white cardstock to house the tags on the right side and sewed that in place. While tags are a great place to add extra photos, in this instance, I decided to add additional journaling.

A little embellishing with some of the "Northern Lights" stickers and I have a documenter spread that became a notebook spread quickly and easily. I hope this will encourage you to look at sketches from other types of projects in a new light and adapt them to make them work for you!

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by January 8th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 gift card to Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the January 13th Layout of the Week post.
