TN Ideas | Summit

Memory keeping in Traveler's Notebooks is a great way to document the details of your everyday. The following TN ideas are perfect for pairing with this month's "Summit" Kit, or just tuck them into your back pocket for a time when your creative mojo is low. Either way, we hope they’ll help inspire your next project!

Showcase a large photo.

Marie Lottermoser made a statement on her Adventure TN spread by showcasing a large photo on over half of her left page. Letting your photos shine is a great way to tell your stories.

On her project, ExploreLisa Truesdell used a large photo to cover her entire left page, creating a great contrast between the two pages. Paired with embellishments, stamping, and journaling on the right page, this spread perfectly documents her memory!

Use patterned paper for your background.

Maggie Massey used patterned paper to add interest to the right page of her spread, January 2018. By pairing a small pattern with a stamped border, she added subtle texture under her photo.

On her spread, All U Need Is LoveCatherine Davis added the green plus sign patterned paper as a base for her photo. This simple design allows her photo to be the focus of the page.

Barabara Picinich made a bold statement on her project My Valentine by layering a bright red patterned paper under her photo. It's the perfect base for her Valentine's Day spread.

Repeat your stamping.

On her spread, Just Us TwoBarbara Picinich used the stamp subscription set to create repeating flowers from circle stamps. Using this technique, she was able to design her own custom background for her project!

Guest designer Nathalie DeSousa created a border on the right-hand side of her spread, Wild and Free, with repeated seal stamps. This is a great way to complete her stunning negative-space-featured layout.

Work in layers.

Lisa Truesdell added layers of photos, journaling, stickers, and stamps to her spread Year in Review - Feb. By sticking to these elements, Lisa was able to add dimension and interest without the bulk!

Marcy Penner used verticle stacking to create layers on her project, Sweet Piper. To avoid bulk, she chose low-profile patterned paper, stickers, and tags to create variety and interest.

Use negative space to your advantage.

Nathalie Desousa created an "X" of white space on her 2018 TN Cover by placing triangles of patterned vellum around her page. The result is a stunning design that points the focus to the title of her page.

On her TN project, XOMarcy Penner directs the viewer's focus to her photo and journaling by leaving plenty of negative space around both. This simple, clean design makes for a gorgeous spread.

The possibilities in your Traveler's Notebook are endless with the "Summit" Kits and January add-ons. Which TN idea do you plan on trying out this month? Post your creations in the gallery and add a link in the comments. We can't wait to see what you'll make!
