Scrapbook Techniques | Candyland

Starting with a blank page can be an intimidating way to begin a layout. The following scrapbook techniques are perfect for pairing with this month's "Candyland" Kit, or just tuck them into your back pocket for a time when your creative mojo is low. Either way, we hope they’ll help inspire your next project!

Use diagonal lines.

Kelly Noel scattered circular embellishments along a diagonal on her layout, Special. The cascade of circles separates her page into two sections: one for the photo and journaling, and the other, a balance of negative space.

Catherine Davis created two diagonals on her layout, Doing Great - 9x12 Layout. Her patterned paper cut at an angle creates a diagonal in one direction and the stamped images go in the other direction; both create movement across her page.

Separate your page in half.

On her project, Candyland - Love NotePam Baldwin separated her layout into two sections vertically: one side for the photo and one side for her journaling. The result is a visually interesting and dynamic page!

Anna-Maria Wolniak divided her page in half using patterned papers on her project, These Moments. To soften the separation, she layered a piece of vellum down the middle of her page.

Make a bold statement with patterned paper.

Guest designer, Ashley Horton, created a bold impact on her layout, Emma & Sadie, by using the colorful circle patterned paper as the base for her page. The embellishments inside the circles on the pattern add a fun touch to her project!

Marcy Penner let her patterned paper steal the show on her layout, Spring Fever. By clustering her photo, embellishments, and journaling into one corner of her page, she allowed the pattern on her page to shine!

Repeat a shape.

On her page, Be MineCatherine Davis placed repeating triangles cut from different patterned papers in a garland-like design across the background of her layout. This design is the perfect contrast to her black and white photo.

Maggie Massey created a simple pattern by repeating the tags from the main kit across her layout, These Three... The simplicity of this clean design creates a dynamic impact on her page!

Get creative with your background.

On her layout, AdoreLisa Truesdell layered several strips of gold-foiled blue washi behind her photo for a fun effect! Getting creative with your photo mat can result in a stunning look on your page.

Guest designer, Ashley Horton, created the background for her layout, Be Original, with the 6x8 Pattern Builder stamp set in fun shades of pink. This one-of-a-kind design mirrors her title and makes a bold impact on her page!

The design possibilities are endless with the "Candyland" Kits and February add-ons. Which scrapbooking technique do you plan on trying out this month? Post your creations in the gallery and add a link in the comments. We can't wait to see what you'll make!
