Using the Candyland Scrapbook Kit with Maggie Massey

Hello, hello everyone! Maggie here with a closer look at how one of my "Candyland" Gallery pages came together.

There was a time when I thought that, in order to create a lovely scrapbook layout, you had to add embellishment after embellishment on top of various patterned papers with a whole variety of bits and pieces. But that just isn't always true. There's really something to be said for the whole "less is more" concept. If you take a look at my recent pages, you'll see I've fallen in love with simple, linear design. Now, don't get me wrong...I really do love bright color and beautiful patterns—but I love them in small doses, and usually as embellishments or accents on my page. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I saw the fantastic tags in this month's Scrapbook Kit! I knew right away they would be the basis for my whole page.

I arranged the tags on my page linearly and printed out my photo to mimic their shape. This clean, simple arrangement really draws your eye to the photo while allowing for all of the beauty of each tag to be seen. Next, I added a chipboard sticker to each of the tags, making sure to choose stickers that complemented the tag colors. I think the addition of these stickers really helps to ground the tags to the page, as well as to add more color and visual interest in a quick and uncluttered way. To finish my page, I added a strip of journaling and another little chipboard sticker. The result is a simple design that still contains all of the color and pattern I love, without distraction or clutter.

Thank you so much for taking a look!

I know it wasn't a challenge to use your sketch, but I did and thought you'd like to know :)
