SC Kit Announcement
Tags:Since its beginning, Studio Calico has been on the forefront of modern memory keeping. Our goal is, and has always been, to provide products and inspiration to document memories with fresh and trend-forward designs. And as we head towards our 11th year anniversary, we’re keeping our focus on that vision.
Our June kits will be the last release for both our Scrapbook and Planner Kits. This wasn’t an easy decision to make—our Scrapbook Kit is where it all started. There has been a drastic change in the memory keeping industry over the last 11 years, and we are continually thankful for all our loyal customers, their feedback, and the ever-evolving community of paper lovers. Looking ahead, we’re excited to focus our energy on the Documenter Kits, Stamp Subscription, and the NEW Traveler’s Notebook Kits. We invite you to join us for our June reveal tomorrow and cannot wait for July when we reveal the new TN Kit.
Our main goal remains the same: to provide beautifully-designed, custom, and high-quality products to your doorstep each month to help you preserve your memories for years to come. With a change as big as this, we’re sure you’ll have questions. Please leave them in the comments below and we’ll post a follow-up with answers. If you need help with a question specific to your own subscription or status, please reach out to our Customer Service team.
How do I switch to the new Traveler’s Notebook Kit?
- If you are a Scrapbook or Planner Kit subscriber, simply visit the Traveler’s Notebook Kit page and sign up for a new subscription. Our system will automatically convert your Scrapbook subscription status over to your new Traveler’s Notebook Kit subscription.
How do I switch to a Documenter Kit or Stamp Subscription?
- We would be happy to help you transfer your Scrapbook or Planner Kit subscription to our Documenter Kit or Stamp Subscription. Please reach out to our Customer Service team and we’ll make that change for you.
What will happen to the Scrapbook Kit Workshop?
- Our scrapbook workshops will continue, just in a slightly different format. Our teachers and contributors will be sharing ways to combine and use your past kits to make the most of your stash.
What will happen to the Planner Kit Workshop?
- June will be our last planner workshop.
Will there be a TN Kit Workshop?
- Yes! We’re excited to start the new TN workshop in July. You’ll be able to sign up on July 1st with reveal.
I’m a Scrapbook or Planner subscriber—how will this affect my rewards status?
- If you are a rewards member based on length of subscription, you’ll need to transfer to our Traveler’s Notebook, Documenter, or Stamp Subscription to maintain that status. If you’re a rewards member based on your spending, you won’t see any change.
Will you continue to offer Scrapbook and Planner products?
- We will continue to make and curate traditional scrapbooking supplies for our shop releases, as well as planner-friendly products.
What happens if I have a Scrapbook or Planner Kit Subscription and don't opt to switch to a new kit?
- If you don't decide to switch your current subscription to our TN, Documenter, or Stamp kits, your subscription will simply end after you are charged for your upcoming June kit. There will be no cancellation fees, and you don't need to do anything else to avoid future charges.

Just now thinking of this: Will the weekly scrapbook sketch also go away?

I have easily received over 100 SC SB kits over the years...and I am very sad to see the kit go...but I am even more sad to see that SC could not do me the curtsey of sending me email on the upcoming changes. I have long loved SC products...but this might be the customer service straw that drives me away.

I am so sorry to hear that you did not receive the email yesterday. The email was sent out to all active scrapbook subscribers. We will check your email address on our end to make sure our emails are being delivered.
@LeiaK, I commented earlier also about not receiving an email. It was a newsletter, not a message. Mine came very late in the day, but the note about the kits being terminated was at the very bottom and easily missed. I don't consider this an appropriate way to communicate something so important to subscribers.
@penny - that was not the same communication that was sent to subscribers. we sent a separate letter, prior to that one, addressing the change.

I know change is hard for many, but so far I find this refreshing. Although I'm not thinking the Document kit will suit me (I seem to be "collecting" PL cards as it is, and cannot use them up in a lifetime - lol), I'm pretty excited about the TN stuff. I do a TN every summer, and often when I travel at Easter...so I'm excited to see your take on it. I currently subscribe to Happie Scrappie out of Malaysia, but it is very sticker heavy. I feel the Studio Calico approach with still have the "scrapbooky" feel to it. ALSO, I'm excited you will be designing the notebooks to have patterns. I can get a plain notebook anywhere, so I'm eager to have a backdrop to already work with. I'm willing to give anything a go, and will follow you on this new crafty adventure.

Sad day for me as well but I have not been a subscriber for a long time. TNs are not for me but I think the minimalistic style is popular now as people don’t have time or room for big scrapbooks. TNs are easier to throw away down the road than the actual scrapbooks. You can use cell phone pictures that don’t require great resolution. You can take notebook with you and do your memory keeping on the go and actually get it done. You cannot take 12x12 with you in your backpack. Times make the trends.
You do not have as much attachment and commitment to notebooks and TNs as people had to big expensive scrapbooks.
I wish SC the best in this new journey.
And I have to ask: When is the next sale of the 2018 SB kits?

I really enjoy TN scrapbooking/planning and have signed up to try the new subscription. I am however still very disappointed to hear the scrapbooking kit is being discontinued because:
1. I like to make my own collection of inserts to coordinate with a TN from papers in kits. This what I do with FJ, TPS, and VB kits every month. I hope your TN kit will be able to compete with these kits because I usually like SC designs.
2. I don’t want to be locked into just one TN size. Most of the planner girls in my circle of friends don’t want to be locked into one size for TNs. We regularly switch up sizes plus it’s also really easy to strap rings into a TN to change it up as well!
3. I have a several sizes and colors of Foxy Fix TNs and the #5 (B6) is my current favorite size. This is why I like to buy the Scrapbook kits because I can cut the 12x12 paper down to what ever TN size I want and have left over paper to use for scrapbooking in my custom inserts.
I truly hope the TN kit is successful, that you’ll be able to offer something fresh to the memory keeping/planner community, and that you don’t lock us into the standard TN size.

I'm having a really hard time here to process this information... I was a SC Scrapbook kit subscriber back in 2012 and due to financial problems (both mine and in the country where I live) I had to cancel my subscription. This year I could finally go back into subscribing and I will only get 2 kits (May - which hasn't arrived yet - and June).
Really sad!

This is truly sad. I get that TNs are all the rage, but it makes me sad that a company as large and popular as Studio Calico isn't willing (or cannot afford) to ride out the slump in traditional scrapbooking. I agree with many of the other posters, TNs will not have the longevity of larger more substantial scrapbooks, and I for one don't want to end of up throwing away all the money invested in 12 x 12 format. So I will not be jumping from one bandwagon to the other; so if that was a sales ploy, it is not going to work on me, and I suspect many others.
As far as predicting further trends, if time is so scant that you are already just doing a TN, pretty soon maybe you are only doing a journal? What does that portend for the scrapbook industry.
Trying to look on the bright side, maybe this will open up the market for SC's competitors to make their own mark. Because I don't think 12 x 12 is dead, yet!
