Sunday Sketch | Kelly Noel

This week our scrapbook sketch is a 9" x 11" layout featuring repeated circles of patterned paper and photos with a patterned paper border around the page. Our notebook sketch has a full-page photo on the left page and a pocket made of patterned paper filled with ephemera on the right. And our pocket page sketch features a 3" x 4" title card with a stamped circular element and a 3" x 4" photo featuring a grid collage of six images. Creative Team member Kelly Noel is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's scrapbook sketch! Be sure to follow Kelly to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our scrapbook sketch comes from Maggie Massey's Hello Spring layout:

Our notebook sketch comes from Marie Lottermoser's Beach Day spread:

And here's Kelly's take on our scrapbook sketch:

I love how working with sketches takes the guesswork out of the equation when you're starting at a pile of amazing products and a blank canvas. I love this month's bright and bold "Hey Girl" Scrapbook Kit and it prompted me to document some photos of a my best girlfriends and me at a party last year. I used Maggie's awesome sketch as inspiration for the page. I took the circle element from the sketch and ran with it, punching circles out of various patterned papers and the vellum (my favorite paper in this month's kit!). I also punched some white cardstock circles and adhered the clear stickers on them. It made it easier to move those elements around my page before committing and adhering them to the page.

The circles really did the work on this page and so not much else was needed as far as embellishing. I added a few of the puffy sticker pieces around the layout and then added the larger "hey girl" sticker above my journaling to serve as the title. This was a great sketch and this layout came together so quickly! I can't wait to see your take!

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by May 14th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 gift card to Studio Calico Shop. Here's my take on the scrapbook sketch. I was inspired by the circles but somehow they turned into flowers ;)

I used the pocket page sketch to make a graduation card for my niece. It worked out great for me because my gift to her is a purple and white quilt: https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/212031-purple-and-gold-grad-card
