Welcome Sarah Zayas to the Creative Team

We are excited to feature our new members of the Studio Calico Creative Team. We're looking forward to seeing their inspiring projects in the gallery and blog, and hope you are, too! Today, we're getting to know Sarah Zayas! Be sure to follow her here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Hi, everyone! I'm Sarah and I live in sunny Southern California with my husband, our baby girl (she turns four months on July 7!), and the happiest, most energetic golden retriever named Nugget. For the past eleven years, I worked as a project manager/coordinator for a grant-funded non-profit center that works with pre-service and in-service math teachers. However, I recently left my position so I can look after our sweet baby girl full time. It's by far the most rewarding, challenging, and all in all, best "job" I could ever ask for. :)

In my free time, you'll either find me relaxing with my family, reading (I'm a bit of a bookworm!), traveling (these days, it's usually little day trips not far from home), and of course, playing with pretty papers and embellishments in my craft room.

My paper crafting journey started when I was about 12. One of the first scrapbooks I ever remember making was a middle school yearbook for my friends to sign at the end of the year. Back then, I covered my pages in photos, solar bright paper, and all the glitter I could get my hands on! At that age, my interest in paper crafting came and went, but it never went far, and eventually, I would go on to study graphic design in college where I could continue to play around with design, typography, images, and so much more!

Not long after graduating from college, I met my husband, and from that point on, my love of memory keeping only grew stronger. Something about all of the trips we were taking and the memories we were making made me want to capture all of the details. One of the first brands I came across when I started diving back into paper crafting again was Studio Calico. After seeing their gorgeous products through social media, I immediately signed up for their Documenter Kits, and every month, I would stalk my UPS tracking info until my little bag of goodies landed on my doorstep! I'd be lying if I said I don't still do that (ha!). To this day, some of my favorite pages in my Project Life® album are ones that I used my Studio Calico products on.

These days, my favorite projects to work on are pocket pages and traveler's notebooks. They are the quickest pages for me to put together and I think they do a great job of encompassing all the things I want to capture in our day-to-day life. Every once in a while, I'll put together a traditional layout or mini book, but it's definitely pocket pages and traveler's notebooks that have my heart right now. :)

One of my favorite past projects is a traveler's notebook page I recently put together. Its super simple, but my favorite thing about it (other than the giant family photo!) is that all of the embellishments are stamps, mostly from Studio Calico. Stamping is still one of my favorite ways to embellish any project, and I truly believe that Studio Calico has some of the best stamp designs on the market!

After so many years of loving and using Studio Calico products, I think it kind of goes without saying how excited and honored I am to be joining the Creative Team. I'm so excited to share lots of fun projects with this awesome community!
