Journaling Prompts | Letters Home

Journaling is a great way to capture the details that make up your everyday life. Whether you're telling in-depth stories or simply captioning a photo, your words are important to preserving your memories for years to come. The following journaling prompts are perfect for pairing with this month's "Letters Home" Kit, or just tuck them into your back pocket for a time when your creative mojo is low. Either way, we hope they’ll help inspire your next project!

Tell Your Story—Not Just Your Family's

Lisa wanted to focus on making sure she told her own stories in her projects, not just her family's. And that's what she did on her spread, Reality Check. This layout is a great reminder to get yourself into your memory keeping along with your family!

Sarah chose to write a letter to herself with a reminder to slow down on her spread, Letter to Myself. We love how she kept her journaling private by tucking her words into a glassine envelope on her page!

Highlight Accomplishments

On her spread, Good Things Are HappeningBarbara called out a list of her daughter's recent accomplishments. From killing it in school to mastering the perfect bun, each item on the list captures a snapshot of her life right now—and we're sure they'll love to look back on this spread in the years to come!

Maggie journaled about her daughter's first time behind the wheel on her spread, Note to Self, and how proud that made her. "Firsts" are always great milestones to document!

Current Obsession

Current obsessions can change from year to year—or stay the same throughout your life. Marcy documented her love for fountain pens in her recent spread, Pens, including a list of what she currently has and what she hopes to get in the future. We love how it turned out!

In the midsts of home renovations, Lisa took the opportunity to record her current obsession with the details in her new kitchen and bathroom on her layout, Fall Notebook - Details. Don't forget to include the small moments in your memory keeping!

"Real" Moments

On her Documenter spread, This Really HappenedPam wrote about getting locked out of the house recently. Mixing in the "real" and not-so-shiny moments with the favorite highlights is a great way to stay inspired in your documenting!

Kelly put the Reality Check stamp set to work on her notebook spread, Redo, to document a less-than-fun afternoon at the ballpark! The phrases in the set are the perfect complement to her story.

The Sweet Stuff

Candace shared the bittersweet details of moving on her spread, Home - Doc 2018. We love how she focused on the sweet memories her family made in their old house and the hope she has for the new one!

What's sweeter than hugs? Guest designer, Mel Blackburn, told the story of a treasured moment on her notebook layout, Hugs. We love how she typed her words on vellum and adhered them to the page!

There's so much you can say with the "Letters Home" Kits and October add-ons. Which journaling prompt do you plan on trying out this month? Post your creations in the gallery and add a link in the comments. We can't wait to see what you'll make!
