member spotlight | Patricia Roebuck

Hello! I’m Patricia Roebuck (SC username Patricia) and I live in Louisiana. I worked for a major insurance company for 20 years prior to becoming a work at home Mom. I've been married for 23 years. My husband and I adopted our daughter, Emma, in July of 2009, so we consider ourselves a Chinese Adoptive Family, but 100% American. It was because of our adoption and wanting to create a Life Book for our daughter, that I got into scrapbooking. The wait for her was 3 1/2 years, so scrapbooking became more of art journaling and playing with all kinds of mixed media...basically a creative outlet. Besides watching Disney, Jr., jumping on the trampoline, swimming (in the summer), spending time with our daughter and scrapbooking, I love photography. I have been so fortunate to be published in Scrapbook Trends, Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbooks, Etc., Scrapwerk, and Scrapbook & Cards Today.I currently design for American Crafts, and am a creative team member for Paper Issues." What's your all time favorite past kit or collection : Into the Woods March 2011 kit was my all time favorite. But my recent favorite kit has been Marks & Co.

What do you do when your kit comes? Gasp and grab scissors to open it right away. Have to look through everything with lots of ooo’s and ahhh’s and sometimes take a picture to post on Instagram so other people can relate to my excitement.

What's your go to technique? Design, color, and texture. Each project is different, but my focus is on getting the base of the layout started first with either layers of pattern paper, mixed media, stamping, or a diecut background. Once the photo and title are added, I add more techniques with machine or hand stitching, inking, stamping, fussy cutting, and/or layering.

Where do you go when your mojo is low? Pinterest, Magazines, Galleries. But my favorite is going to the Mall. I usually look strange taking pictures of displays and clothes with my phone, but the Mall always gives me a flood of ideas.
