Sunday Sketch I Sophie

This week, Sophie (SC username, sophie crespy), is sharing her take on both of our sketches! Sophie's gallery is full of beautiful layouts. Her style is stunning and Sophie has a great eye for design. We love seeing her work in the gallery and couldn't wait to see her work with the sketches!

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our layout comes from Natalie Elphinstone's Hello Kindergarten layout:

And our card sketch comes from Emily Branch's Hi card:

Here's what Sophie has to say about the sketch:

I was immediately drawn to the vertical part of the design on the right side of the layout. I kept it and turned it into a layer of papers with contrasting colors: red, green and lined paper. I also loved the simplicity of the sketch that allowed me to apply my style to it. The square format of the picture is also a fun element: one that recalls the kind of photos that can be done with Instagram for instance. I decided to stick to that format and printed my favorite photo of my girl from last fall. I chose papers and embellishments from Double Scoop kit according to the colors on my photo: pink, green and red. I added a bit of grey as a neutral element. This kit also has some Puffy Stars (Freckled Fawn) that I used because they were featured on the sketch and fitted my girly theme. I kept the tilted title but moved it upward a tiny bit. I embellished the right side of the photo with a cluster of elements, like I love to do on most of my layouts: just playing with shapes and colors. Here I used the Studio Calico Wood Veneer Feathers and dipped them into ink, just at the top. Then I used some Basic Grey flags from my stash to add a diversity of shapes. My journaling is typed on white cardstock and sewn on the paper. I also added a little more sewing on the page, yet again, just too add textures.

Double Scoop Scrapbook Kit: Patterned Paper: Fascinating Friends (Dear Lizzy), Cut and Paste Precisely (Amy Tangerine), Tim & Beck (Tim & Beck), Pizzicato (Studio Calico) Embellishments: ABC Washi (Studio Calico), Small Triangle Roller Doodler (Glitz), Puffy Stars (Freckled Fawn); Blue Note Scrapbook Kit Patterned paper: Sleigh Bell Trail (Basic Grey)

I thought this sketch was somehow festive what with the stars and the tilt of the middle part. It was perfect for a new year’s card. I turned the sketch around and I used the chevron patterned papers in the Double Scoop Kit and added some Basic Grey stars from my stash. I stamped my sentiment at the bottom with a Studio Calico Stamp and added golden Thickers for the year number.

We love Sophie's gorgeous take on these two sketches! Thank you for joining us this week, Sophie! If you'd like to see more of Sophie's work, follow her here at Studio Calico and check out her blog.

This is an awesome card sketch. I used it on a card with products from my Copper Mountain PL kit. Unfortunately I have not been able to upload projects to your gallery recently (I have done so in the past) so here is my blog post of my card:
