Weekly Challenge | Pattern Play

This week, our member Jen (username jenrn), is challenging you to get creative with your patterned papers! Our members are so talented and we love seeing your work in the gallery! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure visit Jen to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Hey everyone! It's Jen and I'm so excited to be sharing this layout and challenge with you today on the blog! This layout was really inspired by the large wood veneer title "make your own magic". I knew it would take up a good bit of space on the page, so I just used one photo on this layout and kept the embellishments pretty simple. If you look closely, you can see that I altered a few of the existing patterns here. For the pink polka dot patterned paper, I used a circle stamp with some yellow ink to embellish the pattern. I also colored in the ocean on the Project Life card with some watercolor. I love altering patterns to make them fit the theme and colors of my page!

That's my challenge to you today! Alter your existing patterns. You can use stamps on patterned paper, fussy-cut designs out of patterned paper, watercolor your paper or PL cards, even use stickers to add to your patterns -- the sky is the limit! I can't wait to see what you create!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Jen's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery(add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by August 17th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the August 22nd Layout of the Week post.

This is a great idea to convert something you don't like into something you do.
I blended inks on b&w card stock, then retrofit the pieces to create journal cards for this layout.
