Scrapbook Kit Workshop - JEN CHAPIN

Jen is a long-time Studio Calico subscriber who has so much fun using their kits! By day she's a nurse, but can usually be found in her scrap room after her two kids go to bed. She enjoys making 12x12 and 8.5x11 layouts, as well as pocket page spreads. In addition to scrapbooking, she enjoys listening to podcasts and cooking. Her creative goals for 2016 include organizing her scrapbooking supplies, staying as caught up as she can with her pocket pages and blogging more.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I love the color scheme this month! It is no secret that I like to make pages with lots of color, so this kit is perfect for me. I also love that there are pops of black in the embellishments and patterned paper. My favorite element is the cork title – perfect for scrapbooking a photo of my daughter in her favorite dress.

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, I’ll do a video walk-through of all the products in the main scrapbook kit along with ideas about how I’m thinking of using them. I will also share a video presentation of some page starters you can use to get your creativity flowing. In the second lesson, you will learn how to incorporate lots of different patterned papers into your layouts. In lesson three, I’ll show you how to use the Labels & Banners stamp set to create a background for your page. And finally in lesson four, we will go over how to incorporate negative space on your layout using the exclusive cut file for this class.

Takeaways:

You will learn how to get the most out of your scrapbook kit – using each and every patterned paper as well as the stamps! I also hope that you’ll come away with a sense of renewed creativity and inspiration after watching the videos.

Documenter Kit Workshop - MAGGIE MASSEY

Maggie is a wife and stay-at-home mom of three living outside Chicago. She's been scrapbooking since high school when she would cut words and phrases from magazines and add them to photos in the lift-the-plastic-and-put-your-photos-on-the-sticky-page albums. In addition to memory-keeping, she loves to dabble in DIY projects, photography and baking – but her first love is documenting her family's day-to-day lives.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I think my favorite things about April's kits are the beautiful card designs and mix of colors. My recent work has included a lot of white space – and I LOVE that the card designs are so clean & simple. Plus, that Pretty in Pink add-on is AMAZING! I love every single piece of it!

What she'll be teaching:

If you're like me, you don't always have a set plan on what story you'd like to tell. So, in the first lesson, we'll focus on how to use the main kit's cards to inspire your spread. In lesson 2, we'll focus on documenting meaningful inanimate object. For our third lesson, we'll use lists as the main journaling in our spread. In each of the lessons, I'll focus on creating spreads without using photos of people – or even without using photos at all!

Takeaways:

You don't have to have a huge amount of photos in order to create meaningful spreads. In fact, you can create fantastic pages without using photos at all! Thinking outside the box while choosing your stories, keeping things simple and letting the kit guide your creativity is a sure way to success.
